@Kimmi To be fair to the people who mention the Hachi movie, the Akita puppy at the beginning was actually a Shiba Inu. I can't blame them for being confused when seeing a Shiba.
@Poetic Dragon....but only in the Richard Gere version!
I had an Akita years ago who was thin and lean and looked more like a JA than an AA and people always thought she was a dingo too. But she looked more like one than my Shibas do!
There's a really awesome couple that comes into my job with their AA that they got from jersey I have done my research on AA pedigrees and I know that if it has t'stones raja on buck ridge or regalia bloodlines than he's of awesome quality plus more however he is AA their dog is so sweet and one of my favorites that come in and the owners like me too but I get bothered when they tell people that he's a jA and he's obviously not thing that sucks even more is that guy that trains their dog at my store thinks AA's are japanese and true to the Japanese blood line....he's true to the American line but Japanese?? C'mon now when I first started he got into so many arguments about it my theory on it now is that u can't make everyone happy and you can only agree to disagree me and this trainer get along great now but I can't bring up the split difference with him because he's one of those that thinks he's always right IMHO just because your a dog trainer doens't mean you know it all but I must sat I saw this AA when he was a pup and he has grown into such a gorgeous dog I luv him but he's not JA.....it's unfortunate you can't get into these discussions with people without them ready to tear your head off
Bump @ jellyfart not to many people in petsmart know their stuff or do their research outside of the store trust me I know I'm an employee their and the only employee who knows about Japanese breeds and maybe a few koren breeds too the trainer will always ask me what dog that came into the store because he thinks it's a giant shiba and I said no it was a jindo owner was shocked I knew her dog was a Korean jindo *face palmed the trainers face* yeaaahhhhuuuhhhh lol so you can't be too mad that they don't know their stuff XD
My Akita and Shiba had been called many breeds, however, what annoys me more if when people try to explain my dogs' temperament and breed characteristics when they obviously don't know the breed.
Sorta like people who get Huskies and believe them to be guard dogs..
@timkin if this question is direct towards me then my answer is the owners have a true AA thick skull bear head the whole nine, however they are ignorant to the fact that there is a split breed so they make the assumption that he is a JA. The dog trainer whom i use to argue with now finally believes me that there is a split difference and now he doesn't understand why they call their AA a JA...The AA has nothing but top AMERICAN champion blood lines. If your statement WAS NOT for me then I am sorry for "littering" this topic forum lol
