@AndrewT1993 I have @shibamistress 's Kai litter mate and he doesn't climb around. I guess it depends... or maybe Goro is a weirdo! He'll get up on the bed to wake up my husband and that's about it. He jumps on the couch to lick us, but he doesn't nap on it. He's kind of a weird Kai when it comes to that. lol Still recommend that you meet one. These are primitive breeds and can be quite different from what people usually expect. For us, it was the moment my husband was all onboard for the Kai bandwagon! lol
This was just one time. He had to be alone with Ife like 10 hours and just got bored. I don't crate my dogs because it's illegal in Finland (which is good). Even it would be legal, I wouldn't crate my dog more than few hours.
Crate training does help with potty training and to prevent the dog to get mischievous. My dogs all go to their crate when they are scared, just want to be left alone, or want to sleep. It is their safe zone. Are X-pens illegal as well?
Eevee's separation anxiety is shown on this photo: I got her when she was 5 years old. I tried thunder shirts, DAP, tons of exercise, and crate training her.
She would bend the bars in her crate and continue pulling until she gets out. This happened when I thought I could leave her alone for 5 minutes. I also believe she will hurt herself so I keep her out of the crate now. A second dog really helped! She no longer destroys the openings of the house (doors, windows.)
I just thought I'd add that regarding getting on things, I really do think we had a breakthrough with Leo in the past couple of days. I had just never thought of using the same hand gesture I use to direct him to a new obstacle in agility, so now I'm doing that, and so he takes it as a command to do the next thing, and since there isn't a new obstacle, he leaps off whatever he is on and sits, waiting for new direction! Yay! It's not ideal (I'd prefer he just didn't get the idea to climb up stuff in the first place) but I think a lot of redirection will slowly work.
that's the thing I love (and sometimes find frustrating) about dogs: you have to find the thing that works for each individual dog. And it just never occurred to me to use the agility hand signals we've been working on to direct him off stuff in the house! But he loves it so much that he's like "Oh, we're working! woohoo!" so it is fun for him too. Hopefully more fun than the table, say!
Lol @shibamistress - that's great, I love it when I have one of those moments too! Leo is so cool and how fun that he likes the agility so much!!! Maybe that's what he's thinking about the tables and bookshelves... hmmm this looks like a good ramp, lol - mom will be so proud of me!! haha What a cutie!
