Squirrel

I've been squirrel hunting. After skinning and cleaning them, Solomon has a great time with the gut pile, the ribs/ribmeat and the skin. He's out in the yard fighting a squirrel skin right now. He has no idea what an idiot he looks like.
Does anyone know if eating hair/fur is good/bad/indifferent for his GI tract and health overall. It seems like a naturally occurring thing to eat hair or fur. Let me know.

Not too sure about the hair/fur issue. Someone else will have to answer that.

I would be more concerned about feeding raw wildlife to Solomon. Do you want him to catch whatever parasites the squirrels might have? Also, in some areas of US, there are still instances of squirrels being infected with plague and animals (usuallly cats) becoming sick from ingesting a plague infected animal.

Don't know what the situation is in your area, but I would check w/ your Fish and Game folks about diseases in local wildlife.

No known instances of disease in Indiana. I think I'm in the clear on that.

would only worry about parasites on the skin and fur and stuff, provided you were sure there was nothing wrong with any of that then I can't see the harm in it but I don't know for sure :)

I know a number of people who feed rabbit raw, and the general suggestion is to deep freeze for an extended period prior to feeding. You can get more info about that and the health risks of feeding unfrozen raw from here http://www.hare-today.com/.

They may be able to answer questions about fur too.
