Oh, I would love to spend Valentines Day with Japanese Akitas. :)
But I'm in New England- the farthest region in the continental US from LA. and I cannot. I hope someone takes pictures. Is it rude to take photos at dog shows? what is the ettiquette? Ask after their turn in the ring? I have only ever been to one dog show and it was a lot to take in for a neophyte. (I love-love-loved the mastiffs...never did find the akita.)

    What does Hozonkai mean?
    What does Algokai mean?
I have heard of Kai Ken Algokai, and Akita Hozonkai...is it "preservation society?"

Hope Aki and us can attend and meet with Ben personally.

That day coincides with Chinese New Year too.

Chrystal, wonder if a bunch of us can get a discount out of PVD to go to LA. It's for a good cause after all. ;)

I think it does mean preservation society. Would love to see you guys there.

Lol Michael, it's funny how you mentioned Chinese New Year and not Valentine's Day :P

Know of any good Japanese eateries/restaurants in the area?

I am sorry but I really do not. Out in Redondo Beach we have Bistro Miyoda & Sushi Ichiriki - which is a fantastic Sushi place. Off of western and the 405 is The Local Place which is Hawaiian -low key and not too bad either.

    Yelp recommends:

    Sakae Suishi
    1601 W Redondo Beach Blvd
    Gardena, CA 90247

    Hakata Ramen Shinsengumi
    2015 W Redondo Beach Blvd

This is Kitanoumi Gou, in the 19-30 month class. He was donated from Japan. Nice vivid color. Puppy attitude.

Another view of Kitanoumi Gou which shows off his color better.

Nine year old Aikana. Not really enthused about being moved from her comfy spot, but still having a go-around during the Veteren's class.

I liked this male as well, even if his coloring was light. Musahi.

Hi AYK, it was great to finally meet you. Sorry I was a space case, 200+ photos can do that to you. I will do a bigger post in the next day - You are right Kita (Kitanoumi Gou) is one of the two new club dogs from Mr. Shirai. Waka is the other one.

    Enjoy-

Hey *JackBurton*, I totally understand. I was meeting some Jindo rescue friends at the show (moving a foster dog + discussing org issues), and I admit that I interrupted the chatting in order to get to the second half of the show and take pictures. For me, shows are dogs first, people second. :-)

P.S. I plan on hitting one of the Shinsengumi places at next month's Beikoku Shiba show. Couldn't do it yesterday since the friends had dogs. Though Ben's Mexican meal at the show was a pretty good consolation.

Just to clear things up: The brindle in the last photo is Ayame, who is they mommy of Kaeda. It is the same brindle who is in the two photos above the last photo reply.

    Ayame is from Yamaguchi http://www.gracegarden.co.jp/english/

Wakakusa-Gou, Kitanoumi Gou, Yusaku, and Onihei are all from Shirai.

Yumi and Kaeda are from Kobun Akita.
