Info on bloating needed

Are Shibas prone to bloating? I was reading up on it and am a little concerned now because Orion sometimes will burp after drinking water and from what I read dogs shouldn't drink to much water before or after eating and you shouldn't feed a dog before or after exersizing. I play with him some in the morning after we get up and in the evenings when we play after coming in from a walk he gets pretty rough playing...sometimes he will eat shortly before or shortly after playing or sometimes maybe 30 minutes to an hour after playing...this has me worried that at sometime he may have trouble with bloating...do you think I'm worring to much or could there be a problem?

And what to many dog biscuts...the artical I read also stated too many could be a problem...he does get more than he probably should. Is yougurt a good thing to help prevent it?

I never heard about any bloating case among shibas. It is problem of the big breeds. Amandil also sometimes burps after drinking, he drinks very fast and it is the case I think.

Feeding at least a half hour before or after an exercise/play session is considered the way to go when trying to avoid bloat.  However I also have never heard of a Shiba getting bloat.

    Nemo burps sometimes too.

Any dog can get Bloat, however there are certain breeds with increased risk factors - more typically, larger breeds...

    From Wikipedia:

The five breeds at greatest risk are Great Danes, Weimaraners, St. Bernards, Gordon Setters, and Irish Setters.[11] In fact, the lifetime risk for a Great Dane to develop bloat has been estimated to be close to 37 percent.[12] Standard Poodles are also at risk for this health problem.[13]Basset Hounds have the greatest risk for dogs less than 23 kg. [2]

I would certainly add Akita's to this short list! It's important to, at the very least, be aware of the symptoms so that you may act quickly. Also, know where your nearest 24-hour Vet is.

Kaia will burp after she eats too, she has always done this. Bloat usually only effects large "barrel" chested dogs, I would not worry to much about your Shiba getting bloat... but I do recommend what Brandon said about waiting 30 minutes or so before or after food for exercising your pup.

Akita should mos def be added to that list.

Tojo is the burpiest!  I was worried Tojo had bloat once because his abdomen was, well, bloated.  Several farts later I decided it was just gas.Tongue out  I did read once that if you're worried our dog has bloat to listen to his stomach.  If you can hear the noises of digestion and the organs working, then you're fine.  If you hear absolutely nothing, then you might have cause for worry.

So what your saying here, is SHIBA'S BURP alot, and that is one of the funnies things I found about King. Almost as bad as my last boyfriend albeit a little more subtle, he puts his head down like he is trying to hide it. AHAHHA  I guess I wouldn't worry about it.  The best advise is from Hondru/Heidi, if you hear the intestines growling and working then i'm sure he's fine.  You should be thankful that it's only burping now because the KING farts are bad brother, bad!
