Where did you get your Kai Ken

edited March 2010 in Kai Ken (甲斐犬)
For those of you that bought Kai Ken in the U.S. What breeder should I get a kai ken from when i get ready to get one. Who has the purest bloodline in the U.S. ?

You will have to decide which breeder you most like on your own. I think that's a very personal decision. Fortunately for you we only have a handful to chose from.

As far as the purest bloodlines I'm not sure what you are asking. If you mean just imported straight from Japan, then that would be Brad. If you mean 100% Kai, then all of them.

My boy, Koda is from Roberta, Snowglobe Acres. She is located in Michigan.

I guess you have got Marian, Marsha, Pam, Sylvia, Roberta, and the Andersons (which you obviously already know). Anyone else out there I'm forgetting?

Peggy had one kai litter too, tho don't know if she's a regular breeder. ~

That's right Peggy. That's who I was thinking about. She breeds Shikoku's right?

Yep. Peggy runs Ikon kennel: http://www.shikokudog.com/nihonken.htm

Cool thanx ive been looking for breeders close to NC....Ohio seems to be as close as it gets
  • edited November -1
Yes, that would be Pam. Shipping a Kai is pretty easy though. I shipped Koda from Michigan to the Bay Area, Ca.

Peggy's litter was exclusively Pam's lines too. You really only have Marian/Roberta lines and Pam/Marsha lines... I have no idea who Sylvia is.

Marian is the only active breeder that has newly imported bloodlines... unless that Sylvia person does.

Ummm lolz maybe I totally messed up her name. The woman in New York. I probably just made up a name and then threw it out there. he he he he. I do that sometimes.

My friend's cousin has one of her dogs.

Oh, well, I didn't know the people in NY were still in the breed - and I never knew their name... but I think they may have had imported bloodlines, which is cool.

    was that Blackwind?
  • edited November -1
Yes yes yes! That's the kennel name I believe. I just know that my friend's cousin has one of her Kai's. Small world.

recently? Their website has been down for a long time...but that may mean nothing much.
  • edited November -1
lol so has Roberta's! And Marsha's is all bad too. It's there, but pages disappear. Our Kai breeders are not into the web too much. :-)

I know a few of the kai breeder's were using yahoo's geocities for free hosting. However, yahoo decided to kill geocities, thus, all the websites that are down. ~

my main concern is the dog be 100% Kai ken, It seems i can find that at any of the breeders you guys listed......thanks for the info :)
  • edited November -1
LOL, I'm certain they'll be 100% Kai Ken, reguardless of which breeder you acquire your pup from.

I think the only way to acquire a Kai/Kishu mix, Shikoku/Kai, Kishu/Shikoku or a blend of all 3 breeds WOULD be to import from Japan, from the active Japanese mixed breed Hunters =p.

Good luck with you puppy, I can't wait to see him or her?
Do you have a perference on gender or just whatever puppy is available that will suit your lifestyle?
