I'm sorry to hear that too. Is Sushi a Shiba? There seem to be a lot of Shibas experiencing this lately. You're on the Shiba side, too, aren't you? Because if so, you'll see (or maybe have seen) Sunyata's posts on her dog's seizures, and I've been through them with my Bel, too.

We don't have any answers, of course, (and often neither do the vets! At least not as to the reason for the seizures), but we can share experiences, and certainly sympathize.

    Poor Sushi! Keep us posted!
  • Oh no. I'm sorry, Ivan. Such a young pup too!
  • I'm so sorry this has happened hope he's doing better soon.
  • Any updates?
  • Hello, sushi is out.

The vet concluded that so far we should just think that he ate/licked something poisonous, most likely the insecticide used in the community green areas or some poisonous plants. Since this is the first time that he had a seizure, there is really no way of telling if it was caused by something chemical he ate, a blow to the head or his own genetics. We rapidly discarded any blow to the head since he is 98% of the time with us and he never had an accident, so there are only 2 options left, if it doesn't come back again in a while, then it could have been something he ate out there.

Anyway we will have to wait and see for the moment.

    Thank you ALL
  • Wow man, that's scary.
We had a cat who got into the bug spray in the back yard once and began seizing. It was the middle of the night and Mom had to rush her to the e-vet and she barely made it. We got 14 more years out of her, so I think if that's what caused it and he recovers good, he shouldn't be harmed from it.
  • He's young right? He needs to get liver values checked via bloodwork. Liver shunts are reported in Shibas and seizures are associated with them, as well as low thyroid.
  • Yeah, I was thinking that probably there may need to be more tests. I thought my dogs' seizures were from something they ate too, and you know it could have been, though I have no idea what they might have got into. Two Shibas having a seizure in one month suggests something environmental, though. But the fact is, Bel has had repeated seizures that I didn't recognize as seizures, before and since, and Toby has only had the one. But I'd really be a little nervous with assuming it was something environmental (though that's certainly better than the other options).

Well, I'll hope there are no more....
  • I do hope this turns out to be a one time incident. I'll be praying for the little man.
  • I really hope he's okay. Poor guy.
