Looked at akc breeders...

edited January 2012 in General
I currently live in Maryland, traveling isn't a rather large issue but I saw that there was an akc breeder of merit in Maryland, otherwise known as innisfree kennels. I just emailed them about visiting them, availability and pricing, but has anyone dealt, and would recommend this breeder? Like I said traveling isn't a completely large issue, but with that said I'm not going to travel all the way to the other side of the country, you know?

  • If you're talking about shiba breeders, it is probably better to post on the shiba forums, since most of the shiba members do not frequent the nihon ken side. :) you would get better feedback on the shiba side :] Good luck!
  • Ah haha that'd be a good idea, sorry bout that. Thanks so much :P
  • Maybe Lindsay can help. She always seems to know everyone in the Shiba world. @lindsayt
  • I never heard of that breeder sorry. :\ Lindsayt might know of them or someone on the shiba side.

I don't know many shiba breeders personally.. Pat Doescher is only shiba breeder I met in person she's really nice and I love her shiba inu that I met of her's and from puppy buyers. Hijinx shiba is her kennel she's in WI though..

I hope get my next shiba from her or some other good breeder.
  • Innisfree is a pretty well-known show breeder of siberians and then shibas. I have no further info than that.

  • I'm sure they have nice pets. I have no firsthand experience with her.
  • I had messaged TharinT about Innisfree...They are mostly known for their Sibes, as every show Sibe breeder seems to want one. If you look at any Sibe pedigree there is at least a few dogs in there that come from Innisfree. They aren't as known for their shibas, but they do seem to be in contact with other local shiba breeders.

Innisfree breeder in Maryland partners with her sister and they both show and handle dogs. I believe she has some older line of Shibas. She does not breed a lot of Shibas. If you are in Maryland I'd schedule to meet. You have nothing to lose since you are probably relatively close by.

  • You might want to attend some local AKC shows and start speaking with breeders there. I don't know the mid-atlantic atea breeders that well but I know some of the North East ones attend shows down there and there are a lot of MD and DC area people with pups from Rodel, Tengai, etc.

I'd also check some of the threads on the shiba side recommended to you on how to find a breeder and think about doing a forum search on the shiba side for specific kennel names. Just as there are quite a few great and ethical breeders on the east coast there are even more grossly irresponsible/unethical ones.
