  • Ryoko is a very pretty girl. Congratulations!
  • spam please!
  • I have met her in person. You are going to love her.
  • Congratulations!

Meeting Kurenai would just seal the deal for you. I'd steal Kurenai any day!!!
  • @tjbart17--hehehe not if I steal her first! :P
  • Congratulations!

  • Congratulations! I hope you do live nearby enough so Kurenai has a nearby Shika playmate. They play so intensely that very few breeds (and owners) can understand.

  • I don't think any dog can keep up with Kirin. She is a monster!
  • Lol not even her brother! Kishus are just bad ass.
  • Yep I live about 20-25 min away depending on where you are exactly.
  • @jujee, I think <1 yr-old Kurenai could've kept up. Kurenai 1+ year old has actually mellowed out a bit...

  • @Nix so glad you got to meet a shikoku! So excited that you decided to get Ryoko. The best of luck!
  • Thanks I hope she doesn't take too long to adjust.

@Nix, glad to meet you and glad Kurenai behaved for you. It wasn't easy to have her there when it's Avengers opening night and we're in front of a movie theater but she behaved herself well for the short time we met.

  • @Nix Patience and love :)
  • Yep time to go shopping today she will be arriving on Sunday morning.
  • You must be so excited!
  • Kurenai is such a cute shikoku. :D

Good luck with your puppy shopping.
  • Yes i am very excited I think I bought all the necessary stuff.
  • quick question what type of brush do you guys use for your shikoku?
  • I basically use a grooming blade or a slicker brush. I personally don't like furminators because they do cut the coat and can really butcher it if you brush too much.
  • I have a furminator-type deshedding blade that I like for shorter fur, but for the fluffier parts (mostly the butt - where the majority of the fluff comes off of) I use an undercoat rake. A regular old pin brush is the main non-shedding time brush, too.
  • The Kong Zoom Groom works for us. I like it a lot. Great for when bathing them!
  • I've got several brushes in my arsenal. Slicker and Zoom Groom for just whatever, undercoat rake and furminator for heavy-shedding, several combs (different tooth width) for tying up/fluffy spots, and a flea comb for post-hike brushings to remove/find any ticks.

I agree that the furminator can be a bad thing if used improperly. It can damage the coat and the skin, much like a razor burn, if used too frequently or too hard. I really like mine though, you just have to pay attention when you use it.
