Introducing: Takeo

edited August 2012 in Akita (秋田犬)
This handsome little fellow is Takeo. He is 3 months old and we just arrived home with him about 2 hours ago!
Kuma just loves him and thinks he is the greatest thing EVER hahaha

We are very excited. He is still very stressed and unsure if he "likes" us yet but he is doing great. Went up the stairs just fine, took treats from my hand, and is now tucked in for the night (I am positive he will wake me up bright and early haha).

    Thank you!

  • Congrats! What a cutie!
  • Thank you!

These dogs act as if they are on drugs when they are together lol I have never seen Kuma so energetic and rambunctious!! They are hilarious. She doesn't understand why she can't just play with him all the time. Poor Takeo needs time to settle in but Kuma thinks it has been long enough hahahaha
  • You have TWO akita puppies, you must be heaven! Thanks for all the pics!
  • So how did you end up with Takeo, etc? I want cute puppy stories too! :)
  • He's pretty cute!
  • Ooo!! He's cute! Congratulations!
  • @MapleTwinkie, we are! I love them and I am amazed at their intelligence and they are so funny! I am glad you like the pics- there are lots more to come lol

@shibamistress, we searched for a LONG time before we found Kuma. We knew before we brought her home that we wanted to add 2 Akita's to our family but we had thought it would take a while to find our second pup since it took us so long to get Kuma. (We had thought it would be 6 months to a year)
    But....
Takeo was just too great to pass up lol We were already prepared for him because we had planned for two Akita's all along so it was just a matter of finding the right pup. I already had his crate, his own toys, bIankies, bed, etc. We got everything when we decided we were ready to start our search for our Akita pup(s) :) I was nervous about adding a new one with Kuma being young and was worried about her training being derailed (she has been doing fantastic and is one of the smartest dogs I have ever had so I worried about messing up by adding a pup now). After much discussion and debate we decided to go meet him. I went with the "let's just go meet him and see what we think" mindset hahaha He is such a sweetheart and he is just beautiful- I was surprised because all of the pictures and videos we had seen of him did not do him justice. I am so glad we went!! He fits our family quite well. And Kuma is still doing great- She will come (almost always) even if he has her distracted!! I am impressed lol

I really really want a JA and have for some time but that is down the road. My dog wish list: JA, Shikoku, Kai Ken, Shiba (not necessarily in that order lol) but again, this is down the road and we only add an animal to our family if we KNOW we can care for him/her completely/properly so we will wait until the time is right :)

    Thank you @Losech and @CarabooA!!
  • Hi
How are you doing with two puppies at home? Are they double the work ? Is there a good advice about how to train them to play together?
  • @AngelLight,
It is a LOT of work but I have the time and patience to work through it. For training and to allow each of their personalities to develop and have individual time with us we sectioned off upstairs and downstairs. We rotate the pups (move one upstairs and the other downstairs and rotate that several times, we make sure they have plenty of play time together (with each other and with all of us), they have their crates, too, if they just want to go in and relax. Our upstairs is just as high traffic as the downstairs so they are not being left alone to create mischief or feel *abandoned*. We have had numerous plants murdered by the rambunctious pups, many many accidents to clean up (Takeo is much more *messy* than Kuma), they seem to find things I didn't know we had much less lost lol And you can't blink or something will get eaten, broken or peed on hahaha (Kuma hasn't had any accidents in a while).

    But on the other side:
I wouldn't have it any other way. They are great pups and they are super smart. All of the things that are happening are normal puppy things and it is all a learning process for them (and us too as they develop individually and we learn their personalities, signs and signals, body language, etc.). They are amazing dogs and we are very happy to have them both.

I am accustomed to multiple dogs though so the extra chaos Takeo's entrance created did not disturb the balance in our family lol
