  • She's so pretty and cute! It's good that she's getting more comfortable with you and Tsune.
  • Glad she is settling and and getting comfortable. The face washing could become a nightly thing. She did that alot with me.
  • @poeticdragon Aww poor little girl, that's really sweet though that you and her have that kind of a relationship. Definitely sounds worth it to take the time to help her across when she's nervous. Repetition like that is likely to be the only way to get her over that, and it sounds like it's working!

I can only imagine what kind of difference that is for her to adjust from ultra-subtle and reserved Japanese culture to more expressive and loud American culture. It's the same thing with Tsune where anyone entering the house is someone to bark at repeatedly in hope that they go away, if they don't go away then he hides under the bed and barks from there lol. Eventually he'll shift to very forward leaning observation while sitting, barking if they look at him, to eventually laying down and just keeping an eye on things (if he's around them long enough and isn't put in my room, depends on the situation).

It almost sounds like with the bond she has with you that it was better that you taught her to socialize rather than anyone else, if it wasn't for her anxiety :)

Thanks @Losech so am I, it's so funny seeing them together, especially now that Tsune has fully grown his coat back after the dermatitis and demodex. It makes him look less rangey with a more burly chest and thicker legs, then there's Ren running next to him and she's all lean and puppy-floppy (or as puppy floppy as NK can get lol).

@sjp051993 Me too, she's a wonderful puppy, can't even imagine any complaints :) I'm working on figuring out what kind of toys/games she likes most. So far no real interest in the bottle with kibble, but that could be because right now she's taken up residence in Tsune's wire kennel (that he basically ignores) and takes her bone/chews in to work on, not so much playing out in the open when indoors. Any suggestions?
  • Oops I forgot to upload my favorite pictures from yesterday's set

And here she is in her "safe place" taking a nap after this mornings play time.

Tsune and her are bonding quickly, yesterday it was playing in the same area, but seperately. Today it's been playing together in the same area, alternating between chewing their own bones to 1-on-1 playing between myself+Ren or myself+Tsune to me just sitting back cheering as they chased eachother and played. Half the time it was Tsune play bowing and barking at Ren to get her to run or chase him, the other half was Ren army crawling around Tsune whimpering, then if he didn't get the picture she'd half jump on him or paw him in the head to get him to play.

Eventually Ren will get tired or Tsune will get too overexcited with Ren getting overwhelmed and deciding to take a break in Tsune's crate (which she has declared ownership of, Tsune has always thought of under the bed as his den and doesn't care). Tsune will then either do a few play barks at her from outside the crate, or walk to the crate entrance and try to instigate more play, but not for long and he won't go in the crate to bother her. At that point Tsune decides it's time for the mid-day nap and crawls under the bed, Ren will also curl and take a nap. I'm considering the crate to be Ren's sanctum and don't reach in for any reason other than to give her a chew toy or a little pet if she's receptive.
I'm really happy with how everything is going!

Oh and apparently the banged up area of the fence is dented perfectly in just one area to allow her to get her shoulders through one at a time (she didn't get loose, I was right next to her). So tomorrow will be a project day, hitting Home Depot for some netting to run between the fence bars so neither one of them can get through, should be able to let Tsune run around without the inflatable donut afterwards too.
  • She never really had and favorite toys. There are a variety of them, and she would pick up various different ones. She always takes her bones of into a quiet spot to chew.
  • She is so pretty! I am glad things are going so well!!!
  • Great to see pics of her, and sounds like she's adjusting quite well! I have to admit I was most struck by the grass: look at all that thick grass! I think in NM I've kind of forgotten what it looks like! I know the first time I walked Leo in a neighborhood with grass (sparse and dried out here! ha!) he was like "whoa! What's this wierd carpet?" *lol*

Sounds like the netting will help secure the fence and let Tsune wander around without his donut, which is pretty funny to see on him!
  • She looks like she's a very happy little girl in her new home! Yay for all of you.

Her uncle is not into toys really. Every once in a while he will grab them to tease Mika or initiate play, but he was never a toy puppy. He had far too much fun with other dogs.

He does like his chicken pigs ears and bullysticks. Chewing has always been his thing. We don't do rawhide because I'm scared of a blockage. My grandma had a dog who got one once stuck in his intestines. He had to have it surgically removed.

And it seems like little Ren is like her Prince of an uncle who never thinks I'm clean enough to be in his presence. He's always cleaned me, and now he cleans Mika.
  • Awesome! I'm so glad that Ren has found a wonderful home. She looks so happy to be outside and more relaxed then in the first set of photos.

    =(^-^)= Congrats!
  • Ren looks amazing
  • The good thing is she never picks them up, just paws at them trying to get them to jump.
  • @ShikokuSpirit @paulhaan Thank you! She's definitely gotten more happy and relaxed than the first day I brought her home. I'd be traumatized too from all that engine noise in a scary cargo hold too lol.

@sjp051993 So far that's what she's done for the few frogs that she's found. She's hilarious with her paws, she uses them for everything just like a person. The only thing she uses her mouth for is licking you to death. She'll literally grab my hand with both her paws so that she can lick rofl.

I woke up to this furry face in my bed, I was figuring she had just hopped up on my bed yesterday morning when she saw me waking up. Nope, Ren decided that the bed is more comfy than the crate and slept in this spot too :)
  • Yeah, she is funny how she uses her paws. I figured it would not be long before she gave up the crate for the bed.
  • Sweet Ren! I enjoy hearing how she has settled in. :)
  • Aww! She looks so cute in the bed. :)
  • @WrylyBrindle @Saya Ren says thanks she thinks she's pretty cute too haha. I'm relieved she's settling in well too, but she just needed a little extra patience :)
  • Oh she's so cute with her ears back!!!!
  • So cute!! I like that last picture on the bed.

I love when dogs use their paws like hands!
  • @tjbart17 @Trzcina Thank you! She's really "handsy" I love it.

More pictures! I took Ren to the dog park with my sister and Keanu, her Golden mix.
Ren raced off after Keanu when we first took their leashes off, then she stopped about 100ft away and was like "wait... where's my human?!", looked around, and then ran back once she saw me haha. She stayed within 5 feet of me for the first 30mins or so, occasionally walking away to ninjasniff some butts, then would come right back once the other dog noticed or if I was too far.

After 30mins or so she relaxed some more and started playing a little bit with a few other puppies her age or younger, but mostly she just followed Keanu around until he'd sprint into the water to fetch or after another dog, then she'd come back and people/dog watch. She had a few suitors calling, particularly this one gorgeous husky or malamute mix (wasn't sure which to be honest) who wanted to hang out but Ren was like "it's another me, interesting! but wait... it's... it's ginormous, scared!" and hid between my legs, which I took a picture of haha.

Once it was about time to go we went for a walk through the woods while my sister wrangled Keanu and took him to go get bathed + shampoo'd. Before getting to the park I was pretty worried that she would find somewhere to hide and I'd end up searching the woods for an hour when it was time to go... but she was perfect! She had a blast trekking along, sniffing the new smells, checking out the plants, and chasing the occasional lizard. Ren kept me in sight the whole time and whenever I'd call her she ran right over, happy for a quick little pat before continuing on the walk.

The park is maybe 15mins away tops, definitely going to make this a weekly trip at the least! It's a huge park, definitely check out Fleet Peeples Dog Park if you're ever in the Orlando/Central Florida area.

@Sangmort We should schedule a dog park day!

She didn't know what to make of the sand at first, she was walking a little odd it was pretty funny :)

My sister and a wet Keanu

She's 22lbs and Keanu is 45lbs, she doesn't really walk, she prances. Super light on her feet like a little ninja

Ren's gentleman caller, curly fluff tail overload

"I'm not sure about this dad!"

    Watching the wet dogs run

    Leggy!

    Ren's headshot

On the alert for other trail trekkers

    Exploring

On the way home, all tuckered out!

  • Oh and thank you @sunyata for the wonderful harness trade, I hope Tsune's harness is working out well, still waiting for pictures! :)
  • Oh she is so pretty! It is so awesome to see all these kai be so active!
  • Love the pictures Ren looks great.
  • I love Ren's headshot! and Damn, but that red Ruffwear harness looks so good on a the kurotora kais!
Have fun, Ren! You're a good girl to stick with Dad! That's the way! :)
  • @ttddinh Thank you! She was so excited to be out of the apartment too, I only own a motorcycle so the one day per week that my sister is free is dog park day, but her fiance had surgery so she's had to do errands etc, finally got the time to go. The pups were so happy!

@Saya Thanks! Can't wait to see some pictures of Saya all fully fluffed for winter!

@WrylyBrindle Haha thank you, that headshot came out really cute, shot it "from the hip" too. Yeahhh I really debated whether to try to find her a grey one or if I should look for a red one. I'll probly eventually get a grey one for around town, I decided on the red one because she's already camouflaged and if she chased after something in the woods she'd be impossible to see :) We need more Juno pics!
  • uh oh. Mama fail...did I never make Juno a thread on the Forum itself? :/ ?
  • She is gorgeous! And I am so glad the harness is working out for her.

Nola's harness is working wonderfully! But I suck at photos lately, my current phone is slowly dying and the camera no longer works on demand... But no fear, my new iPhone 5 will be here sometime today, so I will remedy the lack of photos VERY soon!
  • @WrylyBrindle I'm not sure, but just saying there is no such thing as too many pictures haha, especially of adorable Juno :)

@sunyata Ren says thank you! Aww ok, can't wait to see some more pictures of Nola, she's such a pretty girl with a great sesame! Jealous, I have the 4S for another year until I'm upgrade eligible haha. The bigger screen size with same physical size is pretty sweet
  • I thought there was a Juno thread somewhere maybe I'm wrong.

Posting some on here is good some don't use FB. hehe
  • She looks great. I think she is even leggier than her momma.
  • She kinda looks like her very handsome uncle. :-)
