edited September 2012 in Akita (秋田犬)
Hello guys,

this is Kei Uchuu Tomodachi, although i just called him Andy. He is almost 3 months and i couldnt love him more, he is really tender and always whilling to play and is very courious.

Anyway, i wanted to ask you about the hair color, particulary around the nose, do you know if it will remain black or if will be get whiter as he grows? Both parents are white/red coated.

That is all for now, woof!

Kind regards, Matias.

  • Hi, welcome! Cute pup!!
  • Cute pup!

I never owned an akita before so can't help much, but with most red shiba with the black on their muzzle they'll loose it as they age.

I'm sure an akita owner will confirm it soon. I don't know what age they'd loose it though.
  • What a cute puppy! And as far as I know with akitas, it should fade as he grows older. I've noticed they are born with dark muzzles sometimes that end up fading.
  • The black muzzle should be replaced by white fur as the pup ages. Idk exactly when that happens but it usually does.
  • Cute Akita pup! My Shiba had a black muzzle as a pup, but it's faded to white now.
  • I second the above. my 2.5 y/o Shiba's 5 o'clock shadow is just about at half white half black but started off full black. I think the black muzzles give them a kind of George Clooney quality.
  • The little blaze on his forehead should go away too.
  • Thank you for your answers!!
  • I love Kel's comments! :) I'd hit 'like' and LOL that...
  • He is super cute! It should fade as he ages :) We made need more pictures to know for sure ;) (hint hint) LOL
  • Thanks Kuma! I think the pictures wont be an issue, there are a lot more to come :D, your pup is super cute too!
  • Question: has anybody seen ANY nihonken with black facial markings/mask that faded to anything other than white (excluding the brindles)? I have never seen a Shiba or Akita replace the black mask with red as an adult, it's always been white. I've been worried with some Shiba puppies with lots of black on their faces and sure enough it turns white (I'm not talking about grizzling on their bodies when they are young, just their faces).
