In FL looking for Kai Ken or Shikoku breeders(where ever they may be) please help!!

Hello all I am new here I happen to stumble upon this great site and it has been very helpful so far.

Now for the real test,

Im located in the central Fl area and I have been searching for a while now where as to where I can possibly find a Kai ken breeder or Shikoku breeder if anyone has any helpful information that would be so greatly appreciated. And thank you in advance !!! :)

    There arent any breeders in FL for those breeds. Youre going to have to travel several states away to visit breeders, but as stated in the other thread you can meet owners and their dogs from various breeders in Tampa and other parts of FL. They have meetups sometimes.

    Having a kai and met many several shikoku they are very different breeds. If you haven't met either I would ask if members in your general area would be willing to do a meet so you can judge what your looking for. Also I believe if you search in the forum there are several threads about this. But welcome and good luck on your search!

    @Ginoza We usually meet in Central Florida because most of us live in Tampa and Orlando. The one who's farthest south lives in Boca Raton and he always drives up.

    I have family in Miami and so we always travel down to visit them. We have a Shikoku and a Kai.

    I'm a long ways from getting a dog (in graduate school) but besides a Shiba I haven't ever met any of the other nihon ken.

    @Ginoza I would recommend meeting as many NK as you can so you can get a feel for them. :) You worries. I totally understand. I started researching the NK while in college and it wasn't until 3 years later that I got my two pooches.

    @ginoza I understand the school work stress ( I work full time grad school full time) but it can be done, I have a kai, just takes really good time mgmt

    Thank you! If sometime you were in Miami and were walking the dogs at a park (or even campus-it is super dog friendly) let me know.

    @Cdenney The other reason is I don't have a car currently and cabs in Miami aren't so reliable- I have a taxi guy for morning airport flights for almost 5 years now but any other time is sheer luck on how long it takes to get one- i'd feel really bad if my dog had a medical emergency and I couldn't get him to a vet fast enough...

    @cdenney - I think it depends on the department. If your thesis (or writing a book to get tenure) requires years of field work, it's definitely better to wait.

    I'm in grad school but I just bit the bullet and got my dogs.. I regret it sometimes, especially when traveling, but other times, it's a really good way to clear my mind and just not think about school.

    When I visit home I take care of the dog a little and take her swimming. She just had her second ACL repair surgery but this time she also had a meniscus tear :(

    I agree that it's very relaxing to just watch a movie with her.
