Update on Mushu

edited December 2013 in Behavior & Training
Yesterday i finally got to take her on a walk since she's finished her vaccines. I walked her for 20 minutes down the road and back, but most of the time she would walk for a few seconds, then stop and watch the cars drive by, and she would constantly try to poke into other people's front gardens, is this normal? When she does this I force her away and to continue walking with me, is this okay to do? When she would stop and watch the cars i'd have to tug on her harness to get her to walk, and it takes a lot of effort to get her to walk, what should i do?

  • I'm at work and can't see the pics unfortunately! But "is curiosity normal?" :) Yup that's normal. One trick is to keep a treat pouch with you, and then say "let's go" and give her a little tug to continue walking, and then hold the treat out in front of her when she complies. That way she gets the treat while walking, and connects "let's go" with continuing to walk. That's what I do with Ren and she knows "Ok, let's go!" means it's time to keep moving.
