WrylyBrindle, They are all great dogs. Integrating them has been fairly pain free. Tessa is a total cuddle bug. She sleeps in the bed with us(under the covers of course). Bailey and Moe sleep downstairs(Moe in a kennel).
BearMom, He is a looker! They get along really well. I'm not sure what kennel in Japan he is from. The couple we got him has stopped communicating with us. When we got Moe his previous owners included some paperwork with him. We were able to figure out what Vet hospital in North Ga he was being taken to. When we contacted the vet they wanted to contact his previous owners before they released any paperwork. The vets office was given the ok from the previous owners AFTER we tried multiple times to get in touch with them.
We learned that he has GI issues, and that he does NOT like going to the vets office. While he was there he expelled anal gland stink and farted nonstop. It stunk to high heavens. He also growled a couple times. Poor guy, he was terrified! The vet was a true dog whisperer though! He is currently being treated with Panacur for possible whip worms , metronidazole for balancing bacterial levels in his colon, and clindamycin for campylobacter. I just wish they would answer texts or respond to emails. I can't imagine why they won't respond. It would be great to have his pedigree info though. -Patrick
If you have a Japanese pedigree, scan it and send it to me or post it here, I can maybe make heads or tails of it. I'm getting pretty good at that, lol.
PoeticDragon, I was shown a similar piece of paperwork that was supposed to be scanned and emailed to us. If I can get a hold of it I certainly will try to post it or at least forward it to you.
I'm thinking about seeing if Moe's old vets office will contact his previous owners and see if they will at least email his pedigree info to them to forward to us minus their personal info. It's sad that some people are so shady. Thank you for all your help and advice!
Was he on Craigslist by chance? I had a friend in GA that saw a posting for a JA pup on Craigslist a few months ago.
Sounds like Moe is very lucky to have you as his new owner. His previous owners don't seem to care about him as much as you do. Hope you can get his pedigree...interested in seeing where he got his good looks from!
BearMom, Yes I found him on CL. Truly a diamond in the ruff! I feel lucky to have the chance to share my life with him. Hopefully Monday my girlfriend can mediate his pedigree information thru his old vets office. I will keep everyone here posted. Thank you for your kind words too!
zandrame, He puts the biggest grin on my face! I swear he knew that we were a perfect match for one another. I think he was kept kenneled in a garage for most of his life. There are some funny things that he is afraid of... The tv for one. Also the stairs, he wants nothing to do with going up or down the stairs. He has really taken to our other dogs and us. I look forward to each new day I get to spend bonding with him. It's been very exciting watching his level of trust with us increase each day. I looked up Japanese connotation of Moe on Wikipedia... Lol blossoming young women.. And has something to do with anime. That's kind of ironic cause used to watch some anime. His name was Mochi.. Rice cake is not much better!
PoeticDragon, I still call him Mochi. The last thing a I want is to create any confusion for him during his transition into a new home. My girlfriend calls him Moe.
BearMom, He is still scared of the stairs. Lol, we have tried sitting at the top and half way to the top and calling his name. No luck. I guess its a work in progress. Last Sunday we went on an almost 4 mile walk around a lake that has a paved path. There was tons of people and dogs out and about. Mochi had a lot of people doing double takes, and commenting how beautiful he is.
Tajo, Thank you very much! You have some stunning dogs as well!
You can try putting a little bit of his favorite treat on every step so he eats and climbs his way up. Make sure he is hungry though so he can't resist. Maybe just start off with just the first 2 steps, then next day to the 3rd step, etc until he goes all the way up. Then you will just have to deal with getting him down, lol!

Pedigree looks like this:
No, he is not intact.

When I see "moe" I read it the Japanese way... not so good connotations! :P

Get ready for some serious Akita celebrity...you will no doubt be constantly stopped by strangers inquiring about your handsome "red prince!"
