funny quirks

edited August 2008 in General
I want to know got shibas funny lil quirks that unique to it. roxy has to have something in her mouth to great someone. she also hates if you blow in her ear. she also is a rare shiba in the fact that she fetches. she she likes to chase cars and watch them while laying on a bed. she walks herself in the fact she puts her leash in her mouth when we go on walks. she likes to "groom" our cat. she chases anything that startles her or flies especially butterflies.

Oh, I didn't think it was rare for a Shiba to fetch? Toby fetches for me and hes only 7 months old. :0
Now, coming when called ... thats a whole other story.

LOL roxy will do that sometimes. most shibas won't fetch but one day I took her to the tennis courts with me and I was playing with my mom and I hit it and my mom missed and roxy went. got it and brought it right back so now I take her when ever I go up there so she can be our ball dog. she's funny.

Both Bella (almost 3) and Nola (almost 12 weeks) fetch. I did not realize it was a rare thing for Shibas to fetch either. One weird quirk about Bella is that if we give her an edible treat or bone that is bigger than one bite, she will not eat it. Instead, she will run around the house with it in her mouth and whine. Eventually she will 'bury' it in one of the couch cushions, in one of the chairs, or behind the pillows on the bed. It is crazy how many treats and bones we find hidden. However, now that we have Nola, if Nola gnaws on it, Bella will take it from her and eat it. Crazy pups. :)

roxy does that too ( this about a treat bigger than one bite, she does that with "pizza bones" aka pizza crust as well, roxy will look out the window and whine if she sees a squirl or another dog cause she wants to "play" with the squirl aka eat it, and truely play with the dog. it may not be that rare but I was once told that i was on these forums.

Kekti you basicly described all of my dogs funny quirks Koda loves to fetch, anything i throw he will fetch its funny. he also kills lighting bugs and butterflies its terrible but he loves it. Koda also loves to grab the leash when we walk. sometimes when were walking he will get spooked and start running rapid speed every which way. He also does this thing where all of a sudden he'll start running around house in circles its usually at night and he runs as fast as he can then crashes on the couch and relaxes.

yea koda spins but I was talking about how he will run full speed around the house going the same route not just spining its like he is running around a track and then he'll just stop and lay down it is so funny.

Taj circles a lot and only to the left. She does this when she's nervous or stressed or has to poop. I hope it's not a brain tumor, the behaviorist at my work believes it to be one of her quirks. She has a really annoying quirk that she thinks is cute and that's barking. A lot and it's glass shatteringly high pitched. She mouths my hands when I pet her and chatters her teeth after licking me. She hates puppies. She loves to dig in any mound of dirt and thinks there is a groundhog head sitting just under the top most layer of all dirt mounds. She thinks dragging TP out of the bathroom 10 times a day and leaving it in the dining room all chewed up is good fun and I think she does this for attention. She frequently stares at walls and the baseboard heating system and believes there are furry creatures making noises from these places and taunting her. I can't hear the sounds though. Must be a brain tumor....

Keiko also get's giant spurts of energy where she runs in the same path (something kind of circular, but usually involves jumping over something, crawling under something) over and over again til she crashes. It's SO funny to watch her in the living room, because at the end of the path in one direction is the love seat... when she gets to it she'll jump at it sideways and bounce off of it so she can turn faster - I like to think of it as banking off the furniture lol. It really reminds me of how swimmers turn around at the end of the pool... maybe she'll be a good agility course pup!!! :o) (assuming she gets to design the course that is)

heh when we are playing i'll move both my hand really fast infront of her and he's trying to bite both had but they are going in opposite directions so it looks like she is performing the exorsit trying to turn her head 360

haha kaddy thats funny yea Koda definetly dives under over and around things in the process and nothing will stop him even if I try he will find away around and continue on his path. lol.

Of course! Every shiba does the Shiba 500! :) They were born to run in circles for no reason at all!

roxy has done the banking thing though it looked more like the shiba matrix running on a vertical edge then she jumped from that to on top of a table

Heck, I'll tell you about my other dog's quirks too. Kohji my Kai hates loud noises like guns, thunderstorms, etc. and will hide in the bathroom when he hears them believing the end is near. He HATES wet grass more than anything in the eniire world but will swim in deep water with you. He doesn't like puppies either. He will "woooo wooo" on command which is super cute. He is really well trained off leash, which is in my eyes a quirk for a Japanese dog. He loves to shake dirty socks and "kill them", but only dirty ones fresh off your foot.
News is fascinated with wind up monkey toys. He walks when he poops so the trail is usually several feet long instead of a nice little mound that's easy to see and dispose of. He chews things up if left by himself with it(anything that can be grasped by the canine jaw outside of his crate) into a million little pieces but doesn't ingest it, just shreds it. He barks and flails wildly if you run away from him with a toy. He has floppy ears which make him look incredibly harmless. Oh and he likes to sing along to a T Payne rap song, he knows the chorus by heart.

roxy loves to steal socks. if I leave my door open she'll go in and take
like couple socks one at a time and not pairs just lone socks and she shakes them. well she shake almost any toy. and she can't be trusted offleash she thinks it's a game and will lay on her belly with her tail in the air and wait for you to get close then take off
