I'm so proud of Yoshi

I got Yoshi to do his business last night on command! I couldn't believe it.

I normally just wait for him to do his thing, but for the passed two or three weeks, I've been giving him his "cue" when he starts and praising him once he's done. I'll be honest, I was actually sporadic about it as I wasn't sure whether or not he would pick it up.

After Yoshi had his dinner, and before we went for a walk, I brought him to the spot. He was distracted and was looking for Mochi, my neighbor's puppy. Eager to get back to some work that I had, I wanted to get everything taken care of soon. So I said, 'Yoshi - Pee." And like magic, his nose went straight for the ground and he pee'd within 5 seconds. I was shocked.

So then, Yoshi started to head to the front of the house to go for the walk. Just before he got further than a few feet away, I said 'Yoshi - Poo.' To my surprise, he turned around and sniffed for a few seconds and did his thing.

Normally, we'll spend a whole 10-20 minutes standing around in the back and he'll look back at me like "WTF are we doing here?!" During my "training", I've never once given him a treat. And sometimes, I'd even fail to verbally praise him, yet, he learned it!

It could be coincidence, but with the total amount spent in the back, I'd have to discount that theory. I couldn't try it out tonight as I was at work, and when it was business time, he called for someone to let him out.

Congratulations! Sounds like a very smart boy :) I've never bothered teaching a dog to do its business on command, maybe I'll try it with my next one. Could come in handy maybe?

Nice! I've been trying for over a year to get Lucy to pee and poo on command. Joey almost always goes immediately so I haven't had the opportunity to test him on it. Make sure you continue to give him lots of praise for going on command. You wouldn't want to ruin what you've created. ;-)

Yoshi is smart! I wish Pika can learn how to poo on command. I'll start basic obedience training on him this weekend. Congrats!!

Don't give him that much credit. Yoshi's not that smart. He still doesn't know his name and I've been working on that with him since day 1 lol. He'll respond to a firm "Hey."

You assume he doesn't know his name. I suspect he knows it, he just chooses to ignore you. That's what Lucy does anyway.

    Dave, you're probably right.
