I'm so proud of Yoshi
I got Yoshi to do his business last night on command! I couldn't believe it.
I normally just wait for him to do his thing, but for the passed two or three weeks, I've been giving him his "cue" when he starts and praising him once he's done. I'll be honest, I was actually sporadic about it as I wasn't sure whether or not he would pick it up.
After Yoshi had his dinner, and before we went for a walk, I brought him to the spot. He was distracted and was looking for Mochi, my neighbor's puppy. Eager to get back to some work that I had, I wanted to get everything taken care of soon. So I said, 'Yoshi - Pee." And like magic, his nose went straight for the ground and he pee'd within 5 seconds. I was shocked.
So then, Yoshi started to head to the front of the house to go for the walk. Just before he got further than a few feet away, I said 'Yoshi - Poo.' To my surprise, he turned around and sniffed for a few seconds and did his thing.
Normally, we'll spend a whole 10-20 minutes standing around in the back and he'll look back at me like "WTF are we doing here?!" During my "training", I've never once given him a treat. And sometimes, I'd even fail to verbally praise him, yet, he learned it!
It could be coincidence, but with the total amount spent in the back, I'd have to discount that theory. I couldn't try it out tonight as I was at work, and when it was business time, he called for someone to let him out.
