I wish I was furry like an Akita/Shikoku/Kai/CO

edited November 2008 in General
It is 8 degrees outside right now, Luytiy, Kona, Loa, and Kahuna are out there rolling around and playing - taking naps - being silly - totally unfazed by the cold.

I have to walk 20 feet to get fire wood and I have to put on a jacket and a hat!

I wish I was furry like them!

Agreed Brad! We are finally getting our cold weather in kansas, and as much as I enjoy it, I am permanently wrapped up. (We have put off turning n the heat as long as possible to save a little cash - we have been using a space heater and enjoying fleece! I think we are coming close to the end of that unfortunately...)

You say that now Brad, but when summer comes around and its 95 degrees, you'd be saying I wish I wasn't furry like the rest of you normal people. ;-)

    LMAO

Amber - Has Kansas been kinda warm this year so far? NM has, I hope it doesn't mean less snow. :o\

Jessica - I would love to be a yeti! [I think]

Dave - Good points. I could always shave tho, right?

I'd opt for some fur right now... its -21 here with out the windchill right now. ( celcius, I am not sure what that is in "american")

Not enjoying the cold much here either. We have no snow yet, so I want nothing to do with the cold. Tosca seems to share my feelings because, even though we have the heat on, it can be chilly in my area of the house (1st floor). She stays snuggled into my bed for as long as possible and loves to be covered up with the blankets. How do your shibas feel about winter?

And Brad, Akita fur is a lot to ask a Norelco to handle. I think you'd need to be sheered. :)

Crap! 8 degrees?! I thought it was cold here at 45!

Us Floridians are NOT use to cold. lol

Fur would be nice right now. It sucks when you have short hair too :x ~

    LOL
You'd be less willing to be furry when grooming and in Summer :-)

Ouch, 8ºF is a bit under "comfortable"...

Erika - that would be around -6ºF, and that's a lot under "comfortable"...

I could tease and say that we are at 14ºC (57ºF) here but I won't do that...

So, I guess we won't say what temperature San Diego has been lately during our Santa Ana. But I'll get some cold weather soon. I'll be in Antarctica for most of January although it will be summer down there and not really that cold.

When I lived in Montana I remember it being -40 and still seeing akita outside. I wanted to stick my hands inside them and wear them as mufflers. Brad, I don't think you would appreciate it if I mistook you for an akita :)

Harlow, do you work for Raytheon/doing some research at the Pole? Or are you taking a pleasure cruise? I decided not to go to the Pole as medical staff because you can't take non-native species onto the continent and I didn't want to leave the shibas for 5-6 months for their "summer", which was often as warm as a spring day in Helena (who says there's no such thing as global warming).

Burrr. Chilly, huh? It's damn cold here too. Not ready for the winter, but the doggies are loving it!

It was -9C when I took Remy on his walk this morning. I needed my long johns, two base layes and a touque...this is the coldest morning yet!

Everyone is bundling up here in Atl but I have a little heater in my tummy that is making me so hot! My mom has been freezing and wanting the heat up and I told her I will be walking around naked soon.
Brad, get pregnant for winters, you will stay warm!

I realized, I am pretty short, way too short be a Big Foot... You would have to call me a "Little Foot".

Haha... all you cold lovers and your furry friends are invited to MN on typical January day... It cold be -20 degrees F and maybe even colder if you go "up North"... And then there's that famous "wind chill" (an equation to consider/add on the additional "feel" of the coldness when the wind blows)...

    Ice fishing, anyone?

Only if you will be offering me a whiskey ditch. Mmmm.
  • edited November -1
Hey, my (now deceased) father-in-law's favorite drink was whiskey ditch (I didn't know it by name --- had to look up the recipe on the Internet -- ha ha!) ... (For those who don't know, looks like it's whiskey and water --- would that be the same as watered down whiskey?)... Anyway, we know how to do that one here after many years of entertaining him!

Lindsay: The trip is an expedition cruise-all fun. I've been practicing my kayaking for this trip...

Brad, I'm sure this is what you meant by wishing you were furry. Jen wouldn't mind at all, and you could tell her to call you "Little Foot", it would be perfect. I wonder what the dogs would think, especially Luytiy....

    I also found this! http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/21489855/werewolf_boy.htm?pageid=23020

Yep. The dogs are finally comfortable and it's about 26 degrees during our crack of dawn walks.
Here is a photo of my CO friend Xena. She is 11 years old in this picture.

When the Laiki lived in New Hampshire, they would sleep outside unless it was wet or windy. There would be these little lumps of snow that would start to move if you headed towards the barn and a Laika would be curled up in each one.

Last winter we spent a month of December in Wisconsin. The dogs were in heaven. Guska actually went swimming! Daft animal saw some ducks and went crashing through the ice. He had to work hard to get back to shore and we were some miles from the house. I just brushed his coat out with snow and told him to keep moving! He was fine. By the time we got home, his outer guard hairs were icey but he was completely dry. Their coats are incredible.

    what a great picture!

Brad - sorry this is a little late! It has been atypically warm for us, though nothing record breaking. I'm used to at least one or more snows (or a good ice storm) by now. Today I spent the day in a hoodie, and even got a little warm walking around the park - that's rare for November.

Bev - One of my friends is from Minnesota. However, she is ALWAYS the one complaining about the cold HERE!! I'm not sure I like the cold quite that much, though I've been up that way for work and LOVED the people and the scenery!

I heard the whiskey ditch came about by cattlemen and sheep herders trying to make their whiskey last longer during prohibition, so they mixed it with ditch water, hid the whiskey in ditches. Who knows.

Sarah: Love the pic of Xena... It's clear she loves the snow! Our former dog Joe (a rott/husky/lab mix) loved to have a "snow bath" --- consisting of him rolling in the snow and/or us rubbing him with snow while he wallowed in it. Josephine was young yet last winter, so a little too busy to tolerate that kind of behavior, but I think she is a "snow doggie" too. Also, many times Joe would swim in the lakes and ponds in MN as the ice was breaking up, navigating among the mini-ice floes.

Amber: Funny thing about those Minne"snow""tans" who transplant themselves to (perceived) warmer states. As an adult, my younger sister has lived in Ark, Fla, and now Texas for several years. She has found opportunity to complain about the cold in all those places, and seems to never be able to have it warm enough when she comes back to Mn to visit. Then of course, part of her complaint list is the hyper-air conditioning in use, esp. in Fla and Texas through the summer. She told me when in Fla, during her breaks and lunch, she used to go sit in her car that had been baking in the parking lot of the bank where she worked, just so she could warm up... lol.

It's raining here in California now. Very wet and the hallway to the outside got flooded -frowns-. I need to incorporate a drainage system, I live in an "non-attached" house, it wasn't buildt very well - the backyard is higher then the house! I think I would like my hallways to be flooded with snow, that would be fun! -laughs-

At least winter is here. Surprising Lynx doesn't mind so much, but Shoushuu hates the rain! He is such a house dog, lol.

Brad - get your dogs to get the wood for you. They should start pulling their weight!
