So, Rachael & Chad dropped by last night...

edited December 2008 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)
to have a little visit. First thing that runs through my head after getting the call that they want to come over - my house is a mess and I've got no time to clean up...crap! Seriously, it was the first thought. Then I figured there are 3 kids that live in this house, plus the dog...oh, well - they'll just have to deal with it.

Rachael & Chad can vouch for me about living somewhat in the boonies, it's just this side of civilization, but before you get to the dueling banjoes. Well, Jazz isn't drugged so we knew it could be a little bit of fun, but was hoping that since Jazz was in her space it might make things a little easier.

In the beginning things were going well...a few growls, but mostly wagging tails. They played for a little bit and then it happened. Jazz & Niko were playing and Niko bumped Jazz (who took offense) and we went from play to full snarls & death threats. Jazz got timeout and Niko played a little bit of the drama queen.

Jazz never fully settled down after that. She was on high alert and she was ticked off. One thing we did notice in the vids is how vocals Jazz is when playing. We felt that might not help her when playing because it's tough to figure out if she's playing or if she's about to launch. We also felt that it makes it tough for Niko (THE social butterfly) to figure what Jazz wants.

Usually, I am able to correct Jazz by saying her name and I can break her out of mode, but not last night. She was naked which meant I couldn't grab her by her harness which was not good. Other than that moment, it was nice to sit down with friends.

Holy crap LJ! Jazz looks awesome in that video!!!!! I can't believe how playful she was. If I were you I'd be super proud of her for doing so well, even if it didn't even perfectly.

I'm glad you guys got to hang out. But I'm jealous. Its been waaaaay too long since I've seen Rach and Chad. :-(

Well, you do live on the FAR side of Atlanta, so these things can't be helped!

Jazz did moderately well (especially since she had no melatonin in her), but was very playful, which was nice to see.

You can just see the confusion in Niko. She just had no idea what to do with Jazz. It was awesome watching Jazz play...on her own terms.
Sasha did a great job not leaving my side-even when I had to go to the bathroom. I dont know how we both fit in there and closed the door!
Dave-you know all we are doing is just sitting waiting for someone to take pity on us!

My favorite was when Jazz tried to get Niko was Sasha jumping up on the couch to get out of the way of the ferocious Jazz.

Yeah...60 lb rott/pit was trying to hide from ferocious Jazz!

Rina - BTW, the whirling dervish is Jazz.

Really? Damnit, I thought I heard the other way around. I really need to get my ears checked.

Then I shall correct myself, apologizes

    Holy moly Jazz is nuts!

I mean, Niko is nuts, but Jazz was insane last night!

Okay, how sad is it that I've never seen the movie Deliverence? LOL Thanks for posting that video Chad!

Awesome, LJ! I am so proud of Jazz! I am surprised she did not get dizzy doing all those circles.

And Racheal (and Chad), Niko is such a sprocket! She has little springs on her feet bouncing her down the hallway. :) So cute.

Katie - I'm not sure that's a bad thing! I've kayaked the rivers that were used in filming and that part is very pretty. I didn't meet any of the very "unique" people depicted in the film, but I have been to some small towns in the Appalachians that have made me wonder.

Casey - thanks! Jazz does those spins at home all the time - the most we've counted at one time was 9. The thing is no one in the shiba group has ever seen them live. Jazz presents a very different face at the meetups than she did Sat. nite.

Hahah...Shibas at play are fun to watch. Glad everything started out well. It's hard sometimes to "play it by ear", but some interaction is neat and then a "time out/rest". Maybe next time she will be okay again for a romping around. Just limit the play session. So breaks are good! <--- even during "good" play sessions. Sometimes dogs might "tire" of a play session but don't know when to stop playing, so they might become more "assertive".

All in all, Jazz did a great job! It really is fun to watch them running around and playing all crazy.

Shiba's have such energy! They are amazing to watch.

Katie: "Okay, how sad is it that I've never seen the movie Deliverence?" - I have not either, and was actually unsure of where the clip came from at first...
