Shikoku in the pound?
A friend of mine said she saw a shikoku at her local humane society. She said shikoku was listed as its breed and it looks just like pictures of Rakka I've posted. I told her if it really is a shikoku (bearing in mind that it might just be a dog that looks like a shikoku), then the breeder would very much like to know! It's at the Humane Society Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs. Anyone else know about this? Is there a shikoku owner in Colorado Springs?

Really?
I've actually run into people who said they've seen a Shikoku before, but I've been skeptical. Maybe they had met a Shiba or some Asian breed they thought looked similar to my dog.
I will give Katja a call and then give a call to that Humane Society and see. If there really is a Shikoku there, I will drive out immediately!
Thanks for the info!
I don't have Peggy's number, so if someone can please give her a call too!
Thanks!

Does your friend know the kennel I.D.? I can't find any Shikoku on their website (only Shiba & Akita) and the operator can't do anything without that I.D. number.
I don't have Peggy's number, so if someone can please give her a call too!
Thanks!
wow - I will see what I can find out too, we are pretty close to CO, maybe we can check it out.... man, i hope its not true.
I just barfed thinking about it.
I'll email Peggy about it too.
oh yea - i need to look at that... oops..
I did just all all the local Colorado Springs shelters and none of them have a Shikoku or a dog that really looks like a Shikoku. There are a lot of Shibas tho.
I'll look in the DB now....
Yea, we did the same - there are a lot of cute pups out there tho. I wish we could save them all - but I guess being on that site they are that much closer to their forever homes.
I also called most of the rescues in that area - none of them knew what a Shikoku was. I tried to give them a quick education (usually by request) and told them about the forum - so if any ever popped up on radar they would know where to go. Every person I spoke to was very nice and interested in learning, and helping. I thought that was great.
So I guess that is good news - no Shikoku in the pound! (at least as far as we can tell)
Well, good news so far?
I didn't find anything except a tricolor, "Siberian Husky mix" at that shelter, but there was no photo posted.
I hope you are right, Brad! At least, if there was a Shikoku there...then hopefully s/he got adopted by a loving, caring and forever home! And if indeed one was adopted, I'm sure we will find out!
Hi everyone,
Thanks for sharing so much about the breed. I'm glad there is no indication that there is or was a Shikoku in a Colorado shelter.

Katja chips all her puppies. I'm sure Peggy does the same. If it were a Shikoku, at least one from a North America breeder, the dog could be scanned.
Glad it isn't a Shikoku. I know the day will eventually come. People so rarely research dogs before they get them it seems. Sad.
We had to have our pups from Katja re-chipped because the scanners in the US would not pick up the Canadian chip... just an FYI to anyone who has a Akashima pup.
