burrying bones

edited January 2009 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)
hey, I was wondering if anyone has seen this behavior in their dogs?
so I gave toki a greenie while inside and he put it in his crate on his bed and pretended to bury it by pushing imaginary dirt over it with his nose. absolutely adorable, but then he kept picking it up and moving/pretend burying it in different places and while moving it he kept whimpering like he didn't know what to do with it. Finally he just ate it.
Is this like a I don't trust you being next to my very important greenie...

sometimes when we give roxy a rawhide she'll wimper running around with it and usually she'll go in our guest bedroom and "bury" it under the pillows and go to sleep like she guarding it, if u try to take she'll growl at u but when she wakes up she'll eat it it's weird

Lol, Sachi does that often. She will 'bury' her dog food. Ive found dirty sock, dish towels, and other items stuffed in her food bowl. She hides bones and treats in all kinds of random places. She does the imaginary burying , too. If I ever give her a treat and she doesnt eat it when I give it to her, I take it away so she doesn't hide it and run around whining about it.

Anytime we give Bella or Nola a treat or chew that is bigger than one bite, they will run around the house with it whining, looking for a place to bury it. It is quite funny to watch. Nola will eventually eat it, Bella will not. She just keeps hiding it over and over again.

Yeah, my Kirby does this. He buries things under the couch, or under one of his toys, under my pillow, or just on the carpet. It is soooooo cute.

Not so cute when you are getting ready to lay your head on your pillow, only to find a bone buried underneath it. :-P

Well, I have lived with Kirby long enough to know to LOOK before I lay down. It isn't a big deal if one o his treats are under my pillow.
