Shika Grooming?

Those of you with shikokus, what's your grooming routine? I'm just curious because I barely do anything with Rakka and I'm starting to wondering if I'm the only one. I use the deshedding blade when she's moulting and rinse her off with plain water if she's too filthy to let inside (or just tie her on the porch so she can clean herself off before coming in). That's pretty much it... I don't really bathe or brush her at all and she has virtually no odour and a shiny, mat-free coat.

I do basically the same Heidi. Although I do give Kuma a bath about 2X/year, mainly because I like how silky soft his fur becomes. But I rarely brush him outside the blowing period, he just looks fine. He also has no odor either.

We don't do much. Jen will brush the girls when they are blowing their coat really heavily... that's about it. They only get baths if they get into something.

I would like to give them a bath once a month. However, it usually ends up being every few months. If an event is coming up though, I will give them a quick shampoo, rinse, dry and brush. When they blow their coat I'm brushing it for like a couple of weeks! I use a cat comb.

Aside from the molting period. When I'm bored and tired of rough housing with my dogs, I like to stack and comb them. I love fluffing up their mane. I'm having fun, but it is a great training exercise for the Show Ring. Plus the dogs love it because they get a lot of yummy treats. And now they know not to eat my comb!

Are you doing Nippo shows with them?

Yeah, I'm hoping to do Nippo shows with my Shikoku. I would like to import a judge out here to the States to do a Shikoku specialty show. If not, I'm gonna see about sending both my dogs back to the breeder I got them from in Japan. Have him show my dogs for me and get ratings there. I'm not sure I could afford such a thing though, as I would have to pay him handling + boarding fees. In my dreams...we'll just settle for UKC shows and perhaps do some CKC shows as well.

I brush Tenji occasionally. We bathe him in our shower when he has rolled in something unpleasant (to us). This occurs about 2-3x a year. He cleans himself regularly and normally does not stink.
