Oh, I missed your updated pics!

She is beautiful! Really, she is a great looking Akita Inu, I love her. Congrats again!

How does she get along with Kinu? (I think I see her in that one pic)

You photos are always wonderful. Thanx for sharing!

Yeah I am hoping her coat goes the same way as her fathers, he is a really awesome dog. I had the pleasure of meeting him before he moved to Hungary and he was such a powerful, eye catching dog. I really see a lot of him in Ame! Here is his gallery:

And just so Kinu isn't left out! She's just blown her coat so looking a bit scruffy!

Ah so the father is one of Keiths. He is a JACA and LAbranch Akiho member if memory serves me.

Isn't he? :D I am planning to get a tattoo of his head soon!

Yes that's right, he is Keiths. He handled Jiro for me at his first show, he and Erika are so lovely and so dedicated to their dogs. I'm very glad I got to see Taiyoo in the flesh before they moved. I noticed last night that Taiyoo's tongue curls up slightly, Ame's is exactly the same but the others I've met all had flat tongues. It's really cute!

Beautiful dogs. Their colors just pop so nice. You do not see that much in the show rings around here. Good luck at the show.

    Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd update on the show. Jiro took reserve best dog and 2nd in open (Ame's mother took 1st), and Ame took 2nd in junior (her sister took 1st). I am over the moon with both of them, especially Jiro because I was nervous about showing him but he was amazing, and it was very nice that the judge appreciated him despite my bad handling (it was my first time handling and I was so nervous my hands were shaking the lead!). I am so proud of him and Ame, I can't wait for CRUFTS now!

Show handling can be kind of nerve wracking. I showed my female Dalmatian Megan (Meggie) many moons ago. If you can, find a group of folks that work on show handling. Doesn't need to be a Nihon Ken group. We had a group of folks who were showing different breeds and met behind a local store in a parking lot. I even did the show stuff with my non-show Dalmatian a few times to supplement his obedience work. (This raised some eyebrows, but the idea was to work on "paying attention" to me.)

One of the things to remember while in the show ring: Always work your dog. Even though the judge may appear to be focused on another dog, he/she may also be doing mental comparisons of the dogs in the ring.

    Congrats on a successful show!

Congrats! I remember my first time in the ring. The nervousness goes away after a couple times in the ring.

The dog training facility I go to actually offers handling classes. I had never heard of such thing until this.

    Congrats

Thank you all! I think I'll feel much better about doing it next time just because I know he will be relaxed and well behaved. I am so, so pleased with him.

There aren't any ringcraft classes near me unfortunately, the closest one is a half hour drive and until recently no one in our family had a car. Ame's breeder suggested just keep doing what I'm doing (my friends and I do dummy shows with our dogs) and go to ringcraft once a month if I can get there. I am so looking forward to the next one!
