Attitude Adjustment

edited May 2008 in General
So Jake made an Ass of hisself last night! There's a little of Chihuahua who lives 2 doors down from me. Making a long story short, the owners have never taken proper care and leave her outside a lot. She's always come to my house, since she was 7 weeks old, that is til Jake arrived. Let me say, it's been a good thing because I couldn't drive up without her running over.

Anyway, last night she comes over and Jake grabs her by her neck and shakes her like a ragdoll before I could intervene. "This is my Mom and you can't have her" -- mine, mine, mine.

The other neighbor, the one who owns the larger yorkies yelled for me to come over and by that time, Jake was already in that mode and he jumped on the largest male yorkie... nothing like the of Chihuahua but the kind of posture where he pins the dog down to assert his dominance. Needless to say, they probably won't offer to babysit Jake every again!

He and I have been confined since I've had a foot injury and I know that's some of the problem. At the same time, he needs an attitude adjustment with a dog that won't take it and will stand up for itself.

Can't wait for some Shiba company. HIs little attitude is out of control. Lucy... Jazz... HELP!

Whoa - thats pretty scary with the chihuahua.
It does sound like pent up energy and then some!!!

Jazz will be there on Saturday - we'll have to wait and see if that's a help or a hindrance!

Jazz will definitely help him. He has nothing but respect for her... she demands it from him and that is exactly what he needs.

He's been around the chihuahua before and has acted o.k., but the chihuahua has always been timid around him and with Jake's pinned up emotions/energy, going on a month now, he just let it go. He didn't break her skin when he lifted her off the ground!

Was Jake on his leash when he attacked? It sounds kind of serious, although if the owners of the other dog would take care off their dog, it would have never happened.

Do you have anyone near you who can walk Jake while your foot is healing up? Even a paid walker maybe?

Jake was not on leash and honestly, it was my fault. I let the little dog in while Jake was outside and then let Jake in. It was truly all my fault.

Good idea Brandon regarding the walks. I'm gonna look into it for sure.
