How to upload pics and videos

edited May 2008 in General
I'm sorry as I know this has been explained numerous times. What is the best way to upload these items direct from my computer? I have tried resizing, copy/paste, etc. Nothing seems to work for me. An explanation in very simple terms will be in order... I am almost "illiterate" when it comes to computerese!

Thanks, and again sorry for my ineptness!

The way that I do it is...
    Create an account with www.photobucket.com
Click upload photos, select the photos on your computer that you wish to upload.
Once the photos have finished uploading, select the images you want to post and click "generate HTML code". Copy and paste that into your comment here and there you have it!

To upload directly from your computer, the only option is to attach the file. But this won't let you see the picture, you have to click o it, to download and view.
The best way to paste the image onto the post itself is to upload you photos to a picture sharing website or an online gallery such as picasaweb.google.com, or flickr, or photobucket. After you upload your photos these site give you an option to copy and paste html code that allows you to embed the image onto your post. Be sure you have the "html" button active at the bottom of your comment window, or that you disabled the forum option "coments form" on the forum preferences in your "account" tab.

Thanks Rui - I forgot about making sure html was set on here.

Welcome, we were writing it at the same time, so there's a lot of duplicate info there.

Ah, and for videos, just create a youtube account, upload your videos (some patience might be required) and then copy "embed..." code and paste it on your comment.
Again, make sure html is selected instead of tinymce, or disable the option in your forum preferences.

"some patience might be required" - depending on how long the video "some" can be a very long time!

Ok, here I go with a pic... lets see if it works...

    <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i294.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid294.photobucket.com/albums/mm97/suzieqpublic/Photos%20for%20Nihon%20Ken/MOV00358.flv">

Well, obviously something went awry with the video. Lets try a photo...

Well thanks for all the ideas. I could not get it to work from Photobucket, and my direct copying like I did in the past doesn't work either. Sorry to mess up this thread with my experimentation.

brandon had this issue also - below the comment box is "Format Comments as Tinymce Html"

Choose HTML before you add your comment with the code and it should work.. thats all I did with the same code you had above..

    Good luck!!!!

The links work. You just have to select Html at the bottom of the space you use to type your comments. Or else change your forum option about the forum comments.

Thanks to you both, Tsukitsune and Leonberger! I am so eager to spam you all with my many photos and videos so it will be great to get this working simply for me. Interesting dilemma ... my screen does not have HTML at the bottom of it when I am typing comments, nor does it have the "Format Comments as Tinymce HTML" legend. Maybe that's the issue! I will work at my preferences some more!
