    ... what does that have to do with Cocker Spaniels? - confused -
    My cousins had Cockers for years and they never had any excitement peeing problems. o.o;

    oh! good for you! peeing is much less harmful!

    I think I heard The Dog Whisperer say it has to do with low self-esteem or total submission. Shibas can be timid and I've heard of those traits becoming extreme. I suggest confidence builders by introducing Max to different circumstances, sounds, people, other dogs -- lots of walks in many environments will help to achieve all these introductions. Shibas need this to become balanced.

    Steph, my Cocker Spaniel peed when excited too.

    How do you and your guests greet Max? For a excitement peer, you have to make sure the greeting is no big deal.

    Ignore him.

    Excitement pee is excitement pee - submission pee is submission pee and usually only happens in females.

    Yea, we know the excitement pee well! Then, sometimes excitement is accompanied by submission... Even more pee! Josephine seems to be getting over it to a large extent now, thank god! I say, let your guests greet Max outside on the lawn or driveway or something. Don't let Max in the house until the excitement is over!

    This too shall pass with maturity and getting accustomed to all those new things that Max might encounter!!!

    Excitement pee happens.It will happen when he meets new people. Everytime I get a new girl the first couple of times we are about to do it I pee too. lol jk.

    We either have excitement or submission pee with Keiko - it's usually only when she meets dogs, like during our social class at the puppy school so we're thinking excitement. We've been told we shouldn't worry about it because she'll outgrow it... I just hope that's true. It's very frustrating to be the one who's dog is leaking all over the room and running after her cleaning up :o(

    My very close friends also had Cocker Spaniels that were pee-ers whenever someone newish came into the house - I always associate them with peeing too (even though it's probably not the case in every one).

    I think Brad's got it nailed, likely just excitement pee. Have any guests ignore him for the first 5 or 10 min when they come in. Once he calms down, he should be fine.
