What age do Kai-Ken reach full size?

Ok Kai-Ken owners... What age did your Kai reach its full size? Kona is now like 8 months old, and he is kinda small... I'm getting concerned.

Ahi pretty much stopped growing at 9 months, so I wonder if Kai-Ken have a similar growth rate?

    Brad,

Kenji stoped growing at about 8-9 months but once he reached his full size he started putting on weight fast and getting lots of muscle. How much does he weigh now? Kenji just turned 1 year old and is about 47lbs and is a big boy, but its more muscle than fat.

Hi Jamie! Kona weighs around 40lb now. He just seems really short to me... but maybe I spend to much time with Akita. Also looking at Hanzo's pictures Kona seems really small compared to him. That's what I figured tho, his growth will start slowing now.

Kenji is cute - his brindle is really nice. :o)

Have you measured him at his withers to see how he is against standard?

Well Hanzo was 45 lbs. when I took him to the vet. He was pretty muscular. You could see his muscles in his legs. He was a rock. He actually wasn't that much taller than Portia, but he was a lot wider than her. I would say he was probably 20-21" at the withers.

Kohji probably stopped growing around 1.5 years. I think they fully develop their muscle mass and fill out by then, but I think they get as tall as they are going to be by 1 year at the most. Kohji is on the lean side and not very tall. Kohji's body style looks like Ronan's but slightly more compact.

I just measured him, he is 20 - 20.5 inches at the withers... so he is within the FCI standard and shouldn't grow more than a half an inch. I guess I spend to much time with big dogs, Kona just looks so small to me. lol!

He is still not proportioned correctly - his head is kinda small.

Josephine seems to have been about the same size, height-wise and leg length since around 9-11months. She seems to be gradually gaining a bit more weight (around 42 lbs. at least at the last vet visit in May sometime, while only about 35 lb. at that younger age). Now I show my ignorance--- I don't know how to take the withers measurement, but assuming its from her foot bottom to the top of the front shoulder (well, maybe the back is called the haunches, so that may be a redundant phrase?)... anyway, that's about 17.5 inches. If I got it right, then Kona would be taller than her by about 3 inches or so. Is that to be expected with females versus males?

Anyway, we figure she is about 16-17 months old now.

My husband says (as a joke, but ironically in physical dimensions, it may be quite literally true) that she is our "half-a-lab"... For those who don't get that, there are many yellow, chocolate and black labs in our neighborhood and at the park, not to mention the endless Lab mixes seen everywhere around these parts! Anyway, when we found Josephine as a puppy everyone assumed out of the starting gate she was a Lab 'n' something. Now we are fairly certain she is a Kai Ken (in large part, if not entirely)...

While the physical growth has been relatively slow since that 9-11 month time I have noticed quite a bit of change in her physical appearance as she has matured. She holds her tail differently, nose and head shape have changed, more pronounced shape of her undercarriage, fur is changing color (not sure about the brindle look yet, but she's definitely showing more colors in the fur as she ages), etc. She was spayed around 10-11 months. I have heard (but don't know if its true) that the spaying and neutering has some impact on the ongoing growth (or not) of the dog.

Hope that's helpful, and of course we know there should be some slight doubt about her breed.
