Mylie gets spayed today

I dropped her off at the vet office this morning. I decided to have her spayed for health reasons. After a lot of research, it seems dogs are healthier if you have them spayed as a pup. Well I'm entirely way more emotional about it than I thought I would be, since I'm not a very emotional person. Apparently I have grown so attached to this little Shiba that leaving her at the veterinarian, even though I know she's in good hands; just kills me. She was so excited to go for a ride in the car with me, and gave me the sad puppy eyes when I left her in the vet's hands... :(
I've already got a comfortable place with a blanket and her favorite toy set up in the car for the ride home, and out of pity, I've gone to the store to purchase her a new toy and her favorite treats.
Any advice for when I bring her home? how long before she can be bathed, walked, etc.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Mylie will be fine!! I think younger dogs recover a lot faster from this procedure.
The vet should give you time frames for bathing/exercise. It depends on the type of stitches (desolvable or needs to be removed, or if they did laser) and if there were any complications.
Generally, I give them a month, or longer depending on stitch type, before bathing. And I restrict activity (long walks, jumping) for a few weeks as well.

No need to bath her until she's completely healed and the vet signs her off and the sitches are gone.

She's going to feel cruddy for about 3-4 days. No running, jumping. Restrict walks and active play until the vet tells you it's okay.

After a week, it's going to be hard to keep the girl still, LOL! She'll be nearly back to her old self.

Did you hear from the vet yet? I assume everything went ok. After Hilo's and Ryu's complications, I'm hoping for a good omen before Joey goes in for his neuter surgery tomorrow. So keep us updated!

I got Toby done early, and he healed within days. :) He did have issues afterwards ( the weird dry snotty cough sound ) but that was from an anesthesia. Besides that, he was totally fine and I really haven't had any issues. He did start peeing in his crate a few weeks later, but that fell around his 5 or so month mark and he was going through a little growth spurt. He stopped peeing in his crate a few weeks ago.

    MYLIE UPDATE:
Her surgery went flawlessly & the veterinarian commented on how well behaved she was. She was still a bit groggy from the anesthesia when she came home, and was very cuddly for about an hour. She refused to eat her own food, but showed interest in the tuna I was making so I gave her some. Now, the anesthesia is wearing off and she's obviously mad at me. She refuses to look at me, and purposely turns her head in the opposite direction when we make eye contact. It's heartbreaking! It looks as though she's in quite a bit of pain, poor girl.

that's great that everything went smoothly! The hard part is over and she'll soon be snuggling you like crazy - that was the only part I liked about Ryu's recovery; he was such a snugglebug!!! I'm sure she's not mad at you - she just probably feels ridiculous with the e-cone :-)

Great to hear it went so well! I doubt she's mad at you, she probably just doesn't feel good. Give her a little time to realize that things will go back to normal. Lots of lovin help too, even if she pretends she doesn't want it, deep down she does. ;-)

    MYLIE UPDATE:
She's pretty much back to her old self today, at my heals everywhere I go and getting into things... phewww. She let me take her bandage from the IV off last night and spent all day yesterday, and all night sleeping. I love how cuddly she is! As I write this I hear her munching a bit on her food, thankfully. I was worried because she hadn't touched her dish since before the surgery. She took her pain medicine just fine today, she just felt she had to play with it first!

Most dogs don't each much the same day they get heavy pain meds or anesthesia. Sounds like she is making great progress today though. I'm sure she will be sore for awhile.

    ONE LAST MYLIE UPDATE:
I left her outside today when I went to work, since it was nice out and she didn't seem too interested in coming inside. I left her with her dish, and a few toys to keeps her occupied. Two and a half hours later I come home to let her inside; she couldn't have been more excited... Jumping, running... Everything the Veterinarian said to KEEP her from doing. Finally I open the door and she runs inside, to promptly collapse on the cold kitchen floor. I go back outside to find her toys and bring her food inside. I spent at least 10 minutes looking for these toys, could not find them anywhere... Until I see the top half of a stuffed football sticking up out of the ground. Luckily for me, she buried them together. So I spend my lunch break today digging up dog toys out of the yard. I come inside with them, Mylie's head pops up and she just gives me this look, like... "wtf!?! It took me all day to bury those!"
Obviously, she's doing better... In fact "better" doesn't nearly describe it. It's as if she has taken all the unused energy from the past two days and released it on me tonight. The vet says I'm supposed to keep her from running, jumping and playing? HAHAHAHAHA.... My interference simply gives her something to play off of. I just wish she weren't so CLUMSY!
