Shikoku howl

Have any of you Shikoku parents experienced a strong wolf-like howl? Head held back and lips pursed just like a wolf?

Aww, I wish Toby greeted me like that. I get the ears back, the tail wagging, and puppy kisses all over me. But, the howling is just as cute! :D

I love it when dogs howl, there is something just really cute about it. Especially when puppies howl... so cute!

We are slowly teaching Ahi to howl at us when we howl at her. It's great!

I love in that video how you can hear Hilo in the background "Wooo Wooo"ing - its Hilo's version of the howl. lol :o)

News howls whenever he hears this one rap song in particular on the radio. I think it's T Payne and they say "Shorty" in it a lot(lolol I have no idea what the name of the song is or if that's even the rapper!!) He throws his head back in the car and lets out this long gurgly howl and sounds like Chewbacca ONLY during the chorus. He heard it this morning on the radio and it sounded like he said something while howling. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen or heard in my entire life.

Yes, Kuma just started to howl within the past few months. I don't know if he is doing it while we are gone, but if I go outside our fenced yard but am still around the property, he howls just like a wolf (maybe a bit higher pitched). He does it frequently too. Some people were visiting today and we were talking outside of the fenced yard and he started to do it - they thought it was a really erie sound.

He does not howl to sirens or other noises, just if I am outside the yard.

I wish I had a video camera to record it! I was crying I was laughing so hard this morning. He purses his lips too and closes his eyes, and sounds like he's gurgling salt water. Or just roll your tongue and that's what it sounds like. This is totally off subject but funny as hell too. We bought a pack of batteries at Walmart and a little monkey wind up toy came in the package that moves it's arms up and down when you wind it up. It makes sounds and rolls on the floor when you set it down. Well News thinks it's going to sting him or bite him or something when we show it to him. I think it's the dead, lifeless monkey eyes painted on the front of the toy that throw him. He completely freaks out and tries to bite it and swat it with his paw but is so scared of it actually touching him, when it touches his lips, he flings his head to the side and makes weird noises at it. When he tries to swat at it, he leaps into the air like a scared cat. He will usually catch things in the air if I toss them to him, and I try to make him catch it, and he wants to every time, but flings his head to the side when it touches his lips. Note to self, must get video camera....

Awww. Dogs howling are the cutest things. I love, love, love to see puppies howl. But my absolute favorite is seeing baby wolves howl. It's amazing to see, like they know even when they're little the importance of communication...~

Brad - that howl is amazing and so expressive. Why, I believe that Ahi girl is on the verge of human speech! Its fun to hear these doggies trying to understand us. I'm amazed you did not succumb and immediately un-crate her for some lovin'...

    Thanks for sharing the video---

lol - I think you are right, I think she is close to speaking to us. lol.... Or yelling at us. lol!

The other day our dogs started barking at something in the middle of the night then busted into a howl... they were all howling for a few minutes... it was really fun - I wish I had recorded it.

I forgot I had this vid...

This was from a dog sled team Jen and I visited, we got to see them start howling at dinner time. This is over 100 dogs howling for food... I wish the camera had really picked up how loud and amazing it was:

I have a feeling the video didn't quite do it justice, but it sure is impressive anyway. Where was that? 100 dogs is a LOT!

Oh Jeez, the howling. Ninja howls whenever people come in the house. He barks twice and howls for a few minutes. Of course he gets Portia all riled up and she starts barking and making odd noises too. It is SO LOUD! I feel bad for my neighbors when the door is open for those couple of seconds. Portia howls when she's in the front yard and hears something/someone. Her howl is kind of odd though, Im not sure if it is really a howl. lol.

That video was taken at a place just outside of Aspen.

That area I was filming alone had 100+ dogs, they had 4 other areas with that many dogs. It was a huge operation.

The dogs were in fair condition - kinda sad. Jen and I were invited to go and see the dogs and sleds, we spent the majority of the time giving the dogs some attention, they really needed it. I think Jen pet 200 dogs when we were there.

Clearly a goal-orientated money making venture. And their top goals were not focused on quality of life for their dogs, if you get what I'm saying. :o(

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Such a shame that such beautiful animals are put through that. :-(
