Red Sesame vs Black Sesame?

Which is your favorite for the Shika?

I love them both so much, I can't say one colour without feeling bad. [ it's the same for shibas...I love all 3 colours ]

Just curious as to which is the most popular / favored Shika colour :)~

If I had to choose, I'd say black sesame.
I'm completely basing my choice on Ahi.

Same as Rui, Ahi has made me love the black sesame.

lol, Ahi is definitely a gorgeous example of a black sesame.

The thing for me is, I absolutely love the black sesame, just because they're so beautiful, but the red sesame has a more "wolfish" look, which makes me love the red too! Gah. It makes my head hurt thinking about it. lol~

my favorite is Rakka - she has the best of both colorings I think, obviously the darker sesame, but I think Rakka is stunning.
But then I also like the white shikoku that is/was on here too.

oh hell, I like every dog on the forum.

Oh yes, Rakka is gorgeous [ like all the Shikas on here <3! ] If she had pups they'd be stunning. Ishi is pretty awesome as well.

I've only seen the white shika puppies on Peggy's site, never any grown white Shikas D:~

I lean towards red sesame, but love them all.

I prefer black sesame, tho when I first started to learn about Shikoku I was drawn more to the red sesame.

I think Ahi has made me prefer the black sesame too... tho, really, Ahi is a rather poor example of a female Shikoku - she is HUGE and kinda tall. She is as big as most good-sized male Shikoku. lol.

I'm gonna agree with Jen too - Rakka is the best of both worlds, she is really pretty.

    sorry for all the posts...

I think the black sesame look more "wolfish" than the reds.

Really? When I look at Loa she looks more wolfy [ or maybe coyote like? ] to me than Ahi does :o

But then again...I am only going off of pictures which are never as accurate as the real thing :p~

Ishi & Rakka look more wolfy to me as well :x~

I actually prefer black sesame too - but I own a red sesame. I think he looks a lot like a coyote but most people say he looks like a fox.

Here's his most "wild" pose - caught when he was about 8 months old. Now he has more black in his mask - but still a red boy!

Ok, after hunting the internet re-looking at as many shika photos I could find, I think the black sesame looks like a grey wolf & the red sesame look more like coyotes / red wolves. But the ones that look the most wild [ & are probably my favorite since they're such a great mix of both colours ] the ones like Rakka :) [ though I still stand by the fact that I've never seen a Shikoku that wasn't drop-dead gorgeous! ]

Kuma looks gorgeous Kris! I see more coyote than fox though ;)

In all honesty though, I'd be happy with either black / red / or a mix :o~

For clarification, This is what I see when I see a red sesame Shika [ a red wolf lol ]~

Red wolves are EXTREMELY rare and are said to be crosses between a Coyote and a Wolf. They are REALLY amazing looking. Nice pic!

Miko is still young (6 months) and has not filled out yet so I think now at least she looks very much like a small coyote. In pictures I think Shikoku look like wolves. But when you meet them (they were MUCH smaller than I had imagined at least) there was no question that to me they look coyotes or teeny wolves (maybe like the Honshu or Ezo Wolf). But size wise they would never be mistaken for wolves (amongst those of us with clues, perhaps the lady who thought Rui's Kuma was a Lab would be confused)...

That red wolf is absolutely gorgeous and looks so much like Tenji. Except for the eyes. I am so sorry that I am unable to post pictures of him when he was 9 weeks old and pretty light colored and pictures of him today where he has darkened considerably. I have tried to post pictures but I guess I'm too computer illiterate....sorry

Red wolves are gorgeous & the only wolves I've ever seen in real life. They use to bring grey wolves to school when I was little every year but somehow I was always sick on those days :x [ it still gets me sad every time I think about it :< ]

But when I was saying red sesame look more wolfish I was envisioning a red wolf lol

Jessica - They're definitely one [ like the shiba ] to look bigger in pictures than in real life. :)

    Dorothy - I'm sure he's a handsome boy :D~

That Red Wolf looks just like a coyote to me, without a size reference. I'd be dead wrong if I had to bet.

I'm used to the Iberian Wolf, that looks quite different.

They do look like coyotes as they are of slighter build than their more wolf-y cousins. If you ever saw on in real life though, you'd know they were wolf. There's just something about them...hmm...

Those guys are awesome! I've never seen pictures of Iberian Wolves!

    I want a wolf :<~

I think Shikoku have wolf-ier faces, but coyote builds and markings.

Did you know Coyote are the state animal for South Dakota?

I agree Jessica, Shikoku faces look more primitive / wolf-like. :)

    I want a coyote now D:

I wonder what Florida's state animal is...*goes to look it up* Probably a gator.

Yeah. I do see a lot of deer on the side of the road. ... dead.

But, thats because I live near Valley Forge. :) The National park is there, and people can't hunt there. The deer hide in there all the time, totally safe. BUUUT, the 422 highway is right next to the Valley Forge park. Byebye goes the deer, across the 4 lane highway.

Wow, I'll have to pass some of this Rakka-love on. I also think she's gorgeous. I can't decide if I like black or red sesame better. When I first got into shikoku, I liked the black better, but I'm not so sure now. The red is so rich and vibrant. I do really like Rakka's colouring, though. She's got such lovely accents in her coat.

That red wolf is gorgeous! All of these pictures look quite a bit like shikoku. I've been thinking of getting a brightly coloured vest for Rakka so that no one mistakes her for a wild critter.
