Yea Rachael; When you coming back? I'll hide Josephine! (jk)...

I love the raccoons reaction to infra-red --- "What's that? Oh well, I'll eat some more!"

I know what you say about evil, after having them get into our food coolers twice in one night while camping at the Whitewater State Park a few years ago. We then put ALL the coolers in the car --- guess what we saw on the hatchback of the car in the morning --- coon footprints from looking in the windows and lusting after our food some more! My daughter was about 6-7 at the time and wondered why the raccoons took all her favorite foods --- cherry tomatoes, strawberry cream cheese, tortilla chips, to name just a few items!

Is it just me...or is it like they KNOW the camera is there? [ they're always looking at it? ]

haha Awesome spammage, thanks so much! ~

Osy; I think they know something is different. The camera has an infra-red light at night, and also makes a very low sound as its filming the video. I think all of them (but most visibly in these videos, the raccoons and the rabbit) at least heard the sound of camera. Since many of these animals are nocturnal, perhaps their sense of sight is so sensitive they are also well-tuned to the infra-red too... not sure how that works. But anyway, what a difference in reaction --- especially between the mad dash by the bunny to flee the scene, versus the "oh well, then..." by the raccoons as they resume eating! Always hungry, those critters!

My husband thinks both bear videos (this one, and one with mamma and two babies posted a few weeks back) resulted in the bear walking right up to the camera in curiosity. And the deer are interesting creatures --- I've noticed they are much more reactive to scent than anything else. I've noticed that if movement is not sudden or startling, it is actually possible to walk toward them, but as soon as they catch a scent they are out of there!

Ah! Ok, I thought the game cam was undetactable at first, but after watching all their reactions...& the fact that they are always facing it I thought something was up ;)

Thanks for the explanation Bev. I guess it's a good thing, as it means better shots for you ;D ~

interesting...I guess the photo cell receptors in their eyes are more sensitive that humans think.

Love the pictures....Just curious....Do you have it hanging off a tree or is it posted on a tri pod or pole?

yeah you can sort of see that the bear was possibly poking/sniffing the camera. I wonder if it was one of the same ones before, in the photo with the momma and cubs.

The raccoons are pretty cool. They are so adaptable and pretty clever from what I understand.

thats awesome, Bev!!! I love your game cam! The raccoons and bunny were hilarious. The deer looked almost surreal.
I think Brad should get one... ;)

Snf: The game cam was tied to a tree when these pics were taken, It's setup with straps to wrap around some fixed object (tree, pole, etc. have been used to date). I think a tripod would be at risk from those curious bears, and not sure that it has a "fitting" for tripod! They are made quite sturdy (strong housing around the camera, etc.) to withstand the weather, the cold, rain, etc.

Re: the bear, my husband thinks this one is larger than the mamma with the two cubs. Now we're thinking maybe we got Pappa Bear this time around... The whole family perhaps has been on camera!
