Is he still in the clumsy stage? My aunt and uncles akita was clumsy for so long. HUGE paws and a somewhat normal sized puppy body, she was always falling on her poor chin.
Hilo is 6 months old last Sat. He is now 56#. Getting bigger.
He should gain another 10# this month then slowdown to about 5# a month till he is 15 months (Akitas mature at 15 months)... So that would make him 106# when he is full grown!
Tasha weighs 69.8 pounds as of last Saturday. Small for an Akita female.
Jack's weight went along with his age for awhile - 50+ pounds in the 5th month, 80+ pounds by the time he was 8 mos. I don't know if that was good or not - I suspect what I knew about feeding him then wasn't the best. He probably grew too much too fast. He did reach his top-end weight by the time he was 2 yrs old - 130 pounds. He stood 28+ inches tall at the shoulder. Tasha is much shorter - 22 3/4 inches at the shoulder.
106? I'm thinking Hilo might be about 110-115 full grown, you think?
BTW, Tasha's thyroid is back in normal range. Still no signs of arthritis or problems with her joints or hips - pretty good for 8! She did have a yeast infection in her ears (seems hubby has been slipping her bits of bread, bagel, etc.). She cannot tolerate any grains - gives her ear infections. Poor baby girl.
Do you have pics of Tasha? I would love to see what she looks like. My hubby and I are planning on getting an Akita. I want a white one and he wants Hilo!
I have always figured Hilo would be around 120# but that's REALLY big for a Japanese Akita and his growth seems to be slowing which makes me think he is sticking pretty close to what I have read.
Rachael, I have loads and loads of pics of Tasha Belle. She is extremely photogenic. I'll pick some and post. After seeing them, don't be surprised that hubby decides on a Tasha look-alike. Everyone seems to adore her face. I couldn't post more or do the slide show thing because I got this error:

Tasha is so great, Tasha is really the reason Jen wanted an Akita, she was so cute when we met her.
As for the error - I have no idea... maybe the file size was to large. That error seems to be the generic error that gets thrown when the attachment extension breaks.
I'll try it again this weekend. Sorry guys, I'm under the weather - fighting off a nasty cold. Yes, Tasha is a beautiful girl, inside and out. Sweet as sugar from heaven is what I've always said about her.

Hilo seems to be prone to ear infections too.
