Of Nihon Ken and Bonding

edited September 2008 in General
Do some breeds of Nihon Ken bond closely with one family member, or do they bond with the entire family? Share your experiences here!

While not a Nihon Ken, Jack has a true boxer personality. He loves everyone equally, though his family slightly more than others. :)

From what I understand, Kai Ken tend to be more of a one-person dog. Could be wrong though. :)~

Jazz (Shiba) is most definitely bonded with me more than anyone else. I planned it so that when I picked her up it would pretty much be the two of us that weekend as I wanted to get accustomed to the changes before adding my niece and nephews into the pack. Her next favorite person is my brother - in fact, she has a play sequence that she'll only do with him. She does well with nearly every human she's been presented. If she has a choice, she'll be within 5 feet of me.

Miko is absolutely bonded to Jason. She loves me very much. But there is no question that she is Daddy's little girl. Piglet (while not a Nihon Ken) is 100% my dog. And Moto is probably the most evenly bonded to both of us, although Jay would tell you he is mine. Although when Moto is being naughty, he is Jasons dog dammit!!!

Both tsuki and kitsune are equally bonded to my hub and me, although at first kitsune was like 'hell with her, i'm a man's dog' - but now he's one of those dogs we know we'll only experience once in this life because his loyalty to us both is astounding.

Hachi... it remains to be seen, but so far she's more receptive to me, although I'll admit its hard to feel any real bonding happening, but I love her, and she's shown it back a few times. We joke around though that ask us in a year or so and she'll probably be John's biggest fan. Who knows..

Kona [Kai-Ken] bonded strongly with Jen, not so much with me. All our other Nihonken do a pretty good job of splitting their love.

Tho, I would say Maui is closer to Jen than me and Kaia is closer to me than Jen but I wouldn't say it is a big deal.

I think Honey is just like the other two kids in our house. She looks to me for the nessessities, food, water, walk time, cuddles when she's tired. Things like that. But (just like the kids) she looks to the Hubby for the FUN stuff. Wrestle time, rough house stuff. I dont mind. I kinda like it that way!

Kohji bonded with me very strongly. It's almost like he doesn't like to share me with other dogs sometimes.

Nemo once peed on me (marked me) when I was petting some other dogs. I think our bond is pretty strong.

Sasha (honorary Nihon ken) is 100% mine.
Niko is both. She hates when we are separated and cant choose who she wants. If I am upstairs she will sit at the top of the stairs waiting and watching Chad. She does come to me for comfort and Chad for more play. They both tend to behave better with me in house and Chad out of the house.

Hmmm...though I do live in a multi-human home, my puppy has grown up with always being around me. Other people just kinda fade in and out. He loves meeting new people and gets all excited then after he gets to know you it's "whatever" and he kinda does his own thing for awhile, lol. He does get very playful though. I guess it just depends on his mood -grins-.

He is a people dog for sure, I know. Recently during our obedience sessions he doesn't distract as much anymore. He was more interested in and focused on me and in what we were doing. Which is very exciting for me and I was VERY impressed. He is a bit more difficult to train for perfections with all of his jumping around and not wanting to stay in one position for too long cause of his anticipating the next command, lol. He does get more focused as he ages though, a good sign! So, I'd just assume that he would choose me as an only option, but -shrugs- maybe that could change? I have imprinted on him since he was a pup, ahahah, I have the advantage!

Mika is definitely Kurt's dog, while Keigo is my dog.
