Videos of Lucy and Joey with our special Guest

The Roberts pack has had one extra dog this week due to a friend being out of town. Our guest, Thea, is currently the object of Joey's affection. I think he's got a little crush on her. :-) They have been doing really really well together. They've spent a lot of time playing in my office while I've been busy with work. Here are some videos....

They were playing like crazy doggies just two seconds before I took this video, I swear.




Here is Thea doing her best to get Lucy to play. Lucy, in typical Shiba fashion considers it to be beneath her and wants none of it:




Finally got one of the three of them playing together:




And I thought this was hilarious! Thea sounds the alarm. Lucy and Joey then follow to see what's happening outside. Lucy got there first and Joey didn't have enough space. Here he is looking sad as he waits patiently underneath Thea for his turn to look.




I thought I had uploaded a video of Joey loving on Thea, but apparently I forgot. I'll add it later I guess.

    wow. Joey and Kitsu could be brothers. He's a real handsome Shiba!!
    Thea is HUGE next to the shibas! Especially with Joey literally beneath her!! Lucy has a pretty ferocious "game face"! Great videos!

    lol...sounds like you had a lot of fun too! <--- I can tell from the last video.

    Cute vids. I luffs the Shibas, but Thea is also a good looking doggie.

    Yeah Riiiiiiiight! Suuuuuure those pupps were playing like wild dogs before you took that first video! LOL! I love how they looked at you like...."WHAT?"

    GREAT videos. Is that how most shiba's "play"? lol

    Thanks guys! Thea is a very big girl. She's 90 pounds and that's at the very bottom of the breed standard. Males range from 110-130! She is dumb as a brick, but what she lacks in intellect she makes up for in sweetness.

    Jen: Lucy is 100% recovered from her surgery. She has most of her hair back and no obvious after effects other than a slightly lazy sit with the bad leg. Its getting a lot better though. :-)

    Katie: Yes, that is typical Shiba play style. Lots of noise, lots of teethe showing, very hectic energy, lots of body contact. It can be a bit overwhelming before you get used to it. By way of contrast, here's a video of Joey playing with Thea. Notice that he's much sweeter to her. He licks her a lot reassure her, and makes absolutely no noise.

    Also, I'm dying to get a video of this, but its eluded me so far. Joey has a new way of inviting play with Lucy. He'll approach her from behind and to the side while she is lying down. He will start to nudge her hip with his nose as he slowly pivots around until he is standing over her. And then....he sits on her head! Its HILARIOUS.

    God, Joey is HUGE!!!! Lucy looks so teeny next to him.
    Lucy looks like she's doing great! Glad she's recovered.

    It's so good to see Lucy - can't wait to see her in a couple of weeks!


    Katie - we'll try to take some video of shiba play at the next meetup - it gets a bit loud and snarky.

    Okay. Thanks again guys! Honey likes to play rough with the hubby and I've seen her show teeth before and got kinda worried. But now that I know that's how they play......no problem. :D
