Hunting instinct ?

edited October 2008 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)
So far, Sachi brought back 2 dead mice and yesterday I caught her chewing a "piece" of wing of a dead bird, probably eaten up by a fox. Now, I let her run loose only in the morning and at night just to go do her stuff, otherwise I tie her up when she's outside. ... She always wants to be outside.

Does your Shiba come with surprises?

Nemo has great hunting instincts, but his "killing" instinct is not very good. He always finds mice, but they get away most of the time.

between the three of them, we've had tons of bugs and creepy crawlies, a dead rabbit, 2 squirrels, one chipmunk that was lucky enough to survive, and a bird. They have incredible prey drive, but Tsuki is the only 'huntress', she's the only one smart enough to kill the prey.

Has Sachi gotten all her vaccines? Esp. rabies? Be careful with what she gets into if she has not been fully vaccinated.

The only things my girls have killed are bugs. They like to chase squirrels and chipmunks and birds... But the critters are too fast for them. :)

Miso Loves to try and catch the birds that fly around our backyard. He caught one once, I think the poor thing was injured, but not dead. I placed it outside our fence...but I think the cat got to it :P
