Eval needed near RI

edited October 2008 in General
Are you located near Kingston, RI?
The new york city shiba rescue is really trying to find someone to evaluate a shiba near there and I know you said you are near RI, could you do it?

The message from the intake coordinator:
Hi everyone!
We have a pup (Mookie) located in Kingston, RI that needs to be evaluated for consideration for foster care. IF you are able to help out with this eval, please contact me directly. Thanks :)

What would an eval consist of? just curious.

basic stuff, the NYCSR gives you a form to fill out like how did the dog greet you, does it sit, does it play, walk on a leash, let you groom it, interaction with other dogs, overall health and condition, etc.

I would be interested in helping out the NYCSR in the future, I just am so new to the shiba breed that I don't think I could do anything but a very general evaluation. Does the dog go to your home or do you just go down there and spend some time?
Im glad Jessica is gonna help out!

you go to the dog where it is at (its current home/shelter/etc) and spend 45mins-hour or so just getting a general feel for the dog. Since you have shiba inus, you know what a good shiba inu should be like - and NYCSR can only accept dogs that have the potential to be adopted, so anything that has a people biting history or severe aggression would never be accepted. So they need volunteers to do evals to make sure in general, the dog is adoptable.

I think they are spreading their territory to RI, CT, MA, PA, all of NY, NJ, etc, so if you go to nycshibarescue.org and fill out a volunteer form, you never know what you can do for them! I've fostered, but I took time off when I got Hachi to get her totally absorbed into the pack until I foster again, I transport dogs from shelters to their foster homes, I do evaluations (doing one tomorrow in Northampton, PA actually!) and anything else they need when I can. I think they are a fabulous organization, and they really work with you to get you acclimated to the rescue world. If you have the time and desire to help out shibas in need, I'd at least fill out their contact form and let them know!

    Thanks for the interest!!
