Romi & John visit Casa Anderson!

edited October 2008 in General
Well, Romi and John just left to head home, we had a great visit. It was a lot of fun - tho it was kinda short.

They got to meet all the dogs and Lani did great with them! Ahi violated both of them a bit and Hilo put on the charm.

They got to witness a little "incident" too - Ahi corrected Hilo for being a bit to excited, it was rather hectic. Romi got it on tape too, so we will get that posted so you can see some more of Ahi's wrath,

Anyway, we took a hike wit them today. This trail was close to 11k feet! The hike was nice, but I think we were all exhausted. I only got pics from the Hike, I know Romi and John took a bunch here at the house.

Here are the pics I took...

[the lighting was very difficult on this hike, so the pics are not great]

*Got Fuji *kinda* looking. :o\

This one would have been real nice but the lighting killed it...

I took some video on the hike too, just to show our behaviorist how well Lani did walking with Romi. I'll post it when I get it on YouTube.

Sounds like everyone had fun! I'm a little envious, of course ;)

Pics came out awesome, I especially love Kona + his Pack! Working man :D

The hike looked amazing, I can't believe you have snow! It's still hitting 90 degrees here :o

Thanks for the spammage Brad :) ~

I'm so jealous!!! Can't wait to see pix at the house.

That sounds like a lot of fun!
Right now, I dislike Romi and John a bit ;-P
I can't wait to see the Ahi correcting Hilo video (since I just got corrected by Kuma, I'd like to see what a higher rank does when he gets corrected).
It seems like a really nice hike and a bit of snow is always welcomed.
About the photos, are you using your lens hood? If not, it would be a good help with the flares. A polarizing filter might help too. But apart from the flares, the photos are good.(even the flares are only a problem if they get in the way of a subject, at least for me)

(P.S.: hello fellow Star Wars geek. I would say "may the Force be with you" but that would maybe be a bit too much, so I won't say "may the Force be with you" ;-P)

Great pictures! And I am super jealous of Romi and John! :) Can not wait for more pictures and of course the videos.

Brad: Thanks for the pictorial hike -- once again, I almost feel like I was on the journey! Love the trails and the dogs--- amazed at Kona's strength! That seems like a lot of weight for the length of journey! Just curious (since we let Josephine off-leash so often in a "wilderness" setting)--- Do you allow your doggies off-leash at all on these mountain hikes? What would happen -- would they return to you on call, for example? (I ask the question knowing they have immense freedom while at home with you with your fantastic yard!)

As to the photos, I have the same problems with pics in the bright sunlight--- overcast conditions always seem to have pics come out better for me! Didn't stop me from enjoying them immensely, though! Can't wait for more pics/videos from Romi and John.

Rui: Thanks for the hints on the "flares". I have to say I don't mind them either, and usually like to think/imagine they are the "aura" of someone who is no longer here except in spirit! I'm just a tad disappointed now that I know the "science" of it and how to overcome it, but will likely still keep being pleasantly surprised by an "aura" in my pics, especially when they are taken in a place with some past great memories for me!

Rui - Jen thinks that shirt is geeky, but I don't care. I am not ashamed of my geekyness. lol Also, thanx for the tips - I had not considered using a hood - I don't even have one. Maybe that is an investment I should consider.

Bev - We don't let them off lead on hikes. They would probably do fine, especially the Akita girls, there is just no telling when we will come up on an off-leash dog. If we did, and the dogs were off-lead, it would not be good - they are not very welcoming to 4-leg outsiders. Also, since some are Akita, I just prefer to keep them on leash, in control, in case an off-lead dog charges us.

Here is the hike video, kinda boring, but it shows how great Lani did with Romi!

Lani did very well! Congrats for her and you guys!

You shouldn't be ashamed of your geekyness, I know I'm not, hehehe. I have a t-shirt with Yoda, one of the Thundercats and one of Karate Kid. :-P
About the lens hood, I'm not sure it's the answer but I think it would help. I saw a website a while ago that had some tips on how to make your won lens hood out of cardboard, I'll try to find it.

Visiting the Anderson's was so much fun! I really enjoyed the time we spent with Brad and Jen and of course their pack. We did get a lot of pics and I will post them when we get home. We just entered Cali..so we have about 4 hours to go.

I didn't know you were videotaping me and lani walking! Haha. I wish I could watch vids on my phone. Lani did extremely well! Whatever you guys are doing...its definately working! I will add more when I get home.

Ok, Romi uploaded the hectic Ahi/Hilo vid. Here ya go:

If you watch closely, Hilo kinda gets Ahi in the face, which ignites the Ahi wrath. This is about as hectic as it gets here at Casa Anderson.

Video #1 - I LOVE! I felt like I was walking Kona!!! lol

Video#2 - "About as hectic as it gets" sounded like two lions fighting to me! I think Ahi won that round :) It's interesting to see her determination to go after Hilo, even with Kona wanting to play with her. ~

    1) Great pics! That looks like a beautiful hike. I'm impressed Romi and John were able to handle the altitude like that. I always have problems up that high for a couple days until I'm acclimated.

    2) The video of Romi walking Lani is great! I'm so happy she is doing well. She seems like an amazing dog and it was sad to think she was so afraid of things that can be so fun.

    3) The video of Hilo/Ahi moment was interesting. It seemed like Hilo was all play until the very end, but Ahi locked on like a laser guided missile as soon as Hilo crossed the line. She was clearly trying to make a point and wasn't going to let anything stop her. Very interesting!

ok...WE ARE HOME! After 14 hours of driving...whew...im pretty exhausted! Even though John was a champ and drove the whole 14 hours on the way back! Anywho...

The Anderson pack is AMAZING (humans included!) It was so much fun seeing them again and finally getting to meet all of their dogs. (We had met Loa, Kona, and Ahi earlier this year.)

The Hike was beautiful! SOOOOO much better than ours here in Socal. The views were amazing. In that vid that Brad posted above...I think that was on our way back going uphill...I was getting winded! haha. But Lani...she is awesome. I had thought she was going to be much much worse. But she was behaving very well! On the hike, she was doing awesome! It didn't even seem as though she cared that I was walking her. But really...a few minutes of barking and that was really it. She would come up to us and sniff us and she even jumped up on me once. I think she was maybe confused or just following what the other dogs were doing. But I was proud of her! I just ignored her though because I didn't want to scare her by offering my hand or trying to pet her. So during the hike, I would get little sneak pets in when she would walk really close to me. AWESOME work Brad & Jen!

The trip was really fun! Brad and Jen were wonderful hosts and took us to some awesome places to eat! Everything was delicious! It was also really fun to meet the whole pack. I was actually surprised how well behaved their pack is. I mean, with so many dogs...I was expecting to be overwhelmed! But it was really cool! Hilo, Ahi, and Kona were the main dogs who would jump up at us. But all of them were very friendly and affectionate...I LOVE THEM!

Even though I hate to choose...My favorites are Kona, Loa and Hilo. John loves Kaia, Loa and Hilo. He also really thinks Maui is a stud. I think John fell in love with Kaia a bit. She was all snuggly with him and loving on him. It was really cute. Hilo was really cute with John also. There is something about Kona I just love. I'm not quite exactly sure what it is...but I may be a bit biased also. His eyes just make my heart melt and his vibe is so calm and soothing to me. He is such a lover. Loa had my heart when I first met her. She was just too sweet and cute! She is like the queen of kisses! She is really friendly and affectionate...and so beautiful! Ahi...Ahi, Ahi, Ahi! LOL...well she was Ahi! They let her out to greet us last and when they let her loose she was running toward us at full speed! I love her energy! She seems like an awesome dog to go outdoors with. She is just so fun and exciting to be around. A real sparkplug! Fuji was pretty mellow out of all the dogs. She seems real confident and friendly. She has a very nuturing vibe about her. She is really sweet too! Lani is amazing! I didn't physically interact with her too much because I didn't want to scare her, so everything she approached me, I just stood or sat there and looked the other direction and kept completely still. She did great! She is so gorgeous! The pictures don't do her any justice! Her interaction with Brad and Jen was really cute. Everytime she would approach them, her ears would go back and her tail would wag. It was adorable. She really seems like a very sweet dog. Maui was super friendly and loving. I have to say...he and Kaia have to be the most friendly and sweet Shiba's I have EVER met. When we first came inside, only the Shiba's were inside and they like rushed us at the door. It was soooo cute! Maui and Kaia are adorable. Kaia is friggen tiny btw..I couldn't believe how small she was!

Oh...and how awesome is this...Jen made me a scarf!!! How cool is that? THANKS JEN!!!

Anyways - it was an awesome trip! But it was short :( . I wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next time! It's always a pleasure hanging out with the Anderson's! Thanks again for showing us around and for the hike! It was all great and super fun!

Oh and in the vid with Ahi and Hilo...it was kind of interesting...I didn't really notice that it was getting hectic since I was watching from my digicam 3" screen, but then I heard the noises getting louder and a little more intense...so I was like hmm...I think I should get Brad or Jen now. haha. When Brad came out, Ahi jumped off and ran away.
Now for the pics...there are A LOT!

Is Hilo laying in an outdoor kennel run? It sort of looks like you have some outdoor runs. Thank you for the pictures.

That's a lot of driving. Looks like fun times though. Seems like Hilo can't get enough petting.

ok, I had to say this, Hilo got beat DOWN!!, wow Ahi!,

Romi, when Ahi was charging you full speed did you get kinda scared?

I think I would have closed my eyes, put my hands up and waited to be plowed over. lol
  • edited November -1
LOL, no I wasn't scared. I have had dogs charge me before (in non-aggressive ways - just out of excitement). I just wasn't sure how heavy/powerful she was, so while she was running toward us, I turned sideways and I think Jen grabbed her from behind to slow her down. I was a little intimidated when Hilo jumped up on me! He's a big guy!
  • edited November -1
Love it! I cant wait for my turn with them! Im so hoping next year, soon!
  • edited November -1
Romi: Thanks so much for the pics... Great photos of the doggies, and the scenery.... I'm so glad you had a fun time and made it back and forth safely... Lots of miles, but the pics show it was well worth it!
  • edited November -1
Wow, I am so late on this! :) Awesome pictures. I want Loa kisses!

It really looks like you guys all had a great time. And it is neat to see the pups from someone else's perspective. (Not that there is anything wrong with Brad and Jen's perspective.) Thanks for sharing.
