Busy Saturday, but some small and significant amazing stuff...

I was able to clip Ichi's nails!

My partner stood by and clicked and treated while I had Ichi on my lap and I was able to clip his nails. No squirming, no screaming. One clip, one click, one treat. I am frankly amazed and ecstatic.

I think I can attribute it to being crate trained. It's 8 a.m. and he's usually already in his crate sleeping and I'm off to work. So maybe he was relaxed despite the fact I had given him a bath earlier to assist in his coat blowing (much grouchy whining and groans here but nothing overly dramatic). He finally got a chance to relieve himself just before the nail clipping.

Hey Romi,
Wags n Wiggles interview at 3:00 for me. I'll make sure I put your name in. Ichi's getting puppy daycare and I think I'm going to start him Wednesday. Apparently they've never seen a Shiba puppy so I may be the first.

Thanks for turning me on to Wags n Wiggles!
Jesse

That's awesome Jesse! If Ichi was anything like Joey, clipping his nails without a fuss is a HUGE accomplishment for both of you. Congrats.

Fab news on the clipping! Jazz can't stand the clippers, so we do the grinding

Great news on the clipping! Ninja doesn't mind clipping one bit. He instantly rolls on his back and lets me clip away - as long as someone is rubbing his belly at the same time!

I hope everything goes well at Wags and Wiggles!

lol - Only Nihonken owners can truly get the full feeling of accomplishment with the nail trimming thing. Congrats! Now maybe you can come help us with Loa, Ahi, and Kona's! :o)

    Hey guys,
Wags and Wiggles was great. Mistake #1, leaving harness on dog while in crate. Ichi chewed through his harness and we had no way of walking him in and he refused to get out of the kennel! Lysa was fine with it though and she worked her magic and got Ichi to be on her lap while my partner, Joey and I took a tour of the facilities.

Needless to say we were very impressed by their whole setup and Ichi will be attending his first puppy daycare on Wednesday. I'm glad I don't have to be at work until 9 because I'll have at least an hour to hopefully see him interact with other small dogs.

So after the interview, we headed over to a petstore to get another harness (3rd one in the 5 weeks we've owned him). Two old women were shopping for harnesses for their dogs also (apparently one owns a Britney Spaniel). They proceed to talk to their floor salesperson and see us walking up. They ask about Ichi and what kind of breed is he. Joey had Ichi in his arms while I was looking for a replacement harness when one of the women got up real close and began to stare down Ichi. She then began to say that it's good that he didn't look away when she stares in his eyes because if they don't look at you you don't know if they're going to bite you or not (rolls eyes). She walked away and continued her shopping. Well, sure enough, as soon as the second woman tried to reach out and pet Ichi, he growled and snapped at her finger.

All of Lysa the behaviorist's work was undone in 5 seconds.

    Hey Brad,
I'd welcome the challenge, just as long as if I can do it I get to keep one of them :D j/k

Wow, 3 harnesses in 5 weeks? That's an impressive feat for the little man.

Sorry to hear about those crazy ladies in the pet store. I hate it when people aren't respectful of other people's dogs.

Oh bother...I swear people sometimes. The 1st lady deserves to get bit, challenging a dog like that.

Well, congrats with the clipping of a nail. Lynx still doesn't like it so much. So cute though, she'll give me her paw and then turn her face away so she can't see the clipping. She does shy away often like "No, I just can't do it." So she ALWAYS gets a reward when she can. It really is so hard for her, she doesn't like her feet being touched. I'm the only one who can do it. So won't even try with anyone else. I think I traumatized her as a pup with the nail clipping though -frowns-.

Shoushuu has been pretty good. He doesn't like being restrained though.

This is truely amazing, yay for Ichibi! <-- and you!

My mom's BF will try and do that to Beebe and I want to knock his teeth out. He stands over her and glares at her telling her "I'm the Boss, I'm the Boss." I never visit when he's there anymore.

Congrats on the nail trimming! That is definitely no easy feat with a Shiba. And I am glad he seems to like doggie day care. I hope he continues to do well!

And ugh. People. Sometimes I think this world would be a much better place if it were run by dogs. I guess because I grew up around a lot of animals, I was taught to never stare an unknown animal directly in the eyes. Doing so is a challenge, and you never know, the animal may take you up on it. The only time I have staring contests with my pups is when we are training on "focus" and "watch me". And even then, I do not stare them down!
