Increasingly Vocal?

edited November 2008 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)
Tosca has been described by everyone as a quiet dog, but she's begun "talking" a little bit in the last few days. If she's left out too long or if she wants to play, she'll make random sounds at you. Outside, she doesn't fuss until you're there to bring her in, then she lets you know how she feels? Can a previously quiet dog decide to become vocal? I talk to her sometimes; could I be the cause? I'm not necessarily unhappy, just curious.

Miso is the same way, for the most part he is quiet, but when he wants to play or go outside or come inside or if something outside is bothering him he makes little sounds.

Sake on the other hand screams, barks, and/or cries at EVERYTHING.

She is probably just getting comfortable in your home and letting her personality show through a little.

I agree with Kristin. It also just could be a change in her. I don't know about everyone, but I know that I go through periods where I use certain words or phrases more than others, or I'll use certain facial expressions more often to communicate. Then, a few weeks later I'll change the phrases or facial expressions that I frequently use. Perhaps she's just going through a similar period. I know Joey has become very "vocal" in the last week or so and I have no idea why.

I too agree with Kristin. Maui became very vocal once he hit about 2 years. He is kinda a loud mouth sometimes.

Moto is totally a talker. I think it is kind of adorable to be honest.

I'm with Jessica, I love that Keiko talks, it cracks me up all the time. Whenever we go to puppy class as soon as we walk in the door she greets the instructor (who's usually teaching another class at the time) with a big howl and some random gurgle-y singing. Of course the whole place stops what they're doing to pay attention to my drama queen :o)

Perhaps Tosca will soon join her "Mamma" in the singing? Fun to have a dog who will vocalize! Josephine "talks" to me every morning when I'm getting ready for the office. I'm not sure if she's hastening me along (LOVES to ride in the car downtown and back as my hubby "chauffuers" me), or just wanting to tell me her dreams!!!!

Hanzo got really vocal this past week as well. I think its a great sign on transitioning, their comfort level and acceptance of things. I think its easy to tell a distressed sound from a happy talker, so if she's happy - Enjoy it!
