My Essay for Class
My essay is suppose to tie into the book we are reading. Within that book there was a scene with a Black Kishu dog (unless there were solid black Kishu in the 1600s...I'm thinking maybe white Kishu with the black overlay. In the book this Kishu was the emperor's favorite pedigreed dog). I can pick any topic so long as I use one example from the book. So "Martial Arts" or "Japanese dogs" would be mine. 4 pages are due tonight, but then 10 pages will need to go more into depth for project and final 10 minute oral presentation. It's a persusive essay.
What do you think? Should I take a stab with the Nihon ken? Tonight's essay might be kinda "sloppy" though...which is what I'm afraid of <-- shouldn't wait until the last minute! Since this topic will be for the final though, I will have more time to work on it for the 10 pager and oral presentation <--- even thought about being Kei-kun to class in addition to my speech and photos ---> if the teacher is cool with it.

Dave - The fact that it is a persuasive essay makes it rather difficult. What am I trying to prove or sell? It would have been cool if I could actually pull it off. I can relate it to the story, I just need to use that one example from the book and then kind of trail off from there to Kishu and then some other Japanese breeds. Maybe defend the dog's actions?
Basically, a 13 year old boy was wrestling and rough-housing with the Kishu dog on the Emperor's property. The dog didn't seem to mind too much, but then the boy tossed him up in the air - just did something stupid and this upset the dog. The dog bit him, got him pretty good. The boy took revenge on him on another encounter and killed the Kishu dog with his wooden sword. - Musashi (written by: Eiji Yoshikawa) [translated by: Charles S Terry]
It was worth a try, lol. Something different. Martial Arts is more relavent and easier to do. However, the teacher just said it had to "tie into the book" but not nesscessarily be about it - loop hole. Yeah, I ended up not doing it for the 4 pager. Normally, I could just revise/edit it later, but since it would have been on Japanese dogs...it would bother me to turn in sloppy work.
