edited December 2008 in General
Okay, so I have a pic or two of Honey that I wanted to post but I dodnt have enough for her own thread really. So I thought maybe if everyone else wanted to add Holiday/snow type pics here that would be great.

Once I upload my pics to photobucket I'll add mine. :D (I hope I brought the right camera card!!! haha)

Well, I brought the wrong camera chip in to work today. UGH. So I only have one pic to post. When we were putting up the Christmas tree we had to move our piano from our front window. We left the piano bench near the window and Honey found out that she can hop up on it and watch the birds that nest in our tree. (I figured they'd be GONE by this time in winter....but what do I know?)

*sigh* I need a better camera! SANTA!!! HELP! lol

Brandon, remind me again what kind of camera you use? I know its a super fancy one, I just forgot what make/model it was.

Im looking to getting a higher end digital to actually do some real photography with.
  • edited November -1
It's a Nikon D50 and was possibly "super fancy" when it came out. These days it's a relic. Now a Nikon D700, that's super fancy.

    D700 *drools*

Yowza! Yeah Im not ready to spend $1500 on a camera though! HA HA.

I was looking into this one: Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi 10.1 Megapixel DSLR Digital Camera

If you go the DSLR route, just know that the price of the camera is only the beginning. Lenses cost a ton, hard drives to hold all of the pictures, memory cards, camera cleaning gear, tripods, blah blah blah. It's a lot of fun though.

    D700 *drools*
    AGREED!!

I want a D700. Whoever is Bella's secret santa can get her one. :)
  • edited November -1
I should have thought of that! I have been wanting a D200 for forever, but I've decided that I'll probably just buy an entry level DSLR for now (like the D40), so I can play with it and be able to afford a lens or two.

D700 drooling here too!! I chose to go cheaper with the D90, and so far it's a gem.
  • edited November -1
You picked up the D90? How does the video feature work?
  • edited November -1
Pretty well, it's a nice extra. The last videos of Kuma are already with the D90, but there wasn't much light available.

I've seen well lit footage of it, shot with a 50mm 1.4, and it looked very good.

I like the 4,5fps more than the video :-P

Yeah, I really need a better camera. The one I have now was junk when I got it three years ago. You all seem to like Nikon. I'll have to look into it.

We haven't put our tree up yet, I do have this holiday pic. I know I'm posted it before, but those threads are pretty quiet, so I doubt you've seen it. At the risk of Tosca overload I give you this:

I love Tosca santa hat overloads.

Still trying to capture my kids in the santa hat...no luck yet.

Actually Nancy, I think there's a pretty even split between Nikon and Canon DSLRs on the forum. Osy, Brad, and myself all have Canons, Brandon, Rui, and Pam (I think) all have Nikons. Anyway, Canon and Nikon basically leap frog each other for the coolest new technology. I think in the "entry level" dslr range Nikon has the cool stuff now with the D90. If you wait 3 months Canon will probably come out with something just slightly cooler and then vice versa.

Anyway, LJs plan is totally what I'd go with. Buy a cheap body to get started as the lenses have 10 times the effect on image quality (and also can be used with pretty much every body you'll own from now on as long as you stick with the same manufacturer).

I'm a Nikon fan and have been one for ages - although, my point & shoot is a Canon. When I was pricing things out, I figured I could get the 2 lenses I wanted and the D40 body for what I'd pay for D200 body and 1 lens.

These days you have to be slightly careful, as some DSLRs are now full frame and if you have a bunch of digital lenses (built for smaller digital sensors still in most DSLRS) you are out of luck. Of course anyone who is looking at a full frame sensor DSLR has some serious cash to throw around anyhow.

I'm not sure I'd call the D90 entry level. D40 is entry level, the D60 too, the D90 I would say is a bit more of a beast than some people might want for a first DSLR.

LJ - Used D200's are pretty easy to come by these days, have you looked into that?
  • edited November -1
I hadn't looked into a used D200 - do you know a good site (reputable) for refurb cameras?
  • edited November -1
Well I don't know a good site for refurbs, I just know a lot of people sell them personally as they have moved onto the D300 or D700. The Nikonians has a forum of stuff for sale or where you can post what you want to buy:

    http://www.nikonians.org/forums/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=100&page=

A lot of gear heads on there who are always selling things, many can give references to satisfied people who have bought from them. I purchased a used lens on there with no problems. Most of them try to sell there befor possibly going to e-bay.

I'll check it out - thx!
