Rakka's Lump

Whew... what a busy couple of days.

As the title suggests, Rakka has a lump. It's on the left side of her neck right at the corner of her jaw. It appeared on Christmas day quite suddenly, and I mean really suddenly. Like not there at all, then there one hour later. I didn't bother trying to call the vet on Christmas Day, and Boxing Day is a holiday in Canada, too, so I waited until today to take her to the vet. The vet shaved the lump and poked her with the syringe to see what was in the lump and it was just blood, no puss or anything, so he said it's most likely just from rough play or banging into something. Given the location, it could also be an irritated lymph node. She's getting anti-biotics for a week and if that doesn't make it go away, then onto plan B, which is to have a more thorough analysis of the mass. He said even if it's something benign like a lipoma, it'd be best to remove it because it's so close to her jugular. He said he seriously doubts it's anything other than just an injury, given how suddenly it appeared and the fact that she's young, in good shape, and has no other symptoms. In the interest of my own health, I'm trying not to worry too much about it, but that's hard, lol. She looks goofy with a bald lump on her neck, but I'm sure she'll be fine.

On another note, I'm pretty sure Rakka's health is somehow tied to the condition of my tires. You may remember how last time Rakka went to the vet, my tire blew out on the way there. Well, today I kept noticing that I was slipping a lot and I took a look at my tires and the tread is almost completely gone. I got stuck twice in the most pathetically shallow snow... looking at it, you would not have thought I was stuck, but I was. Then, on the way home, we all pretty much had a near-death experience. We were driving down the highway, and I was actually thinking how good it was that the roads were clear, when out of nowhere, I drove right into six inches of slippery snow. The car spun in a full circle across both highway lanes, then spun back across the lanes and went off the road, all the while Noah shouting things that would make a sailor cry. Someone stopped right away and helped us push our car back on the road, because, miraculously, we didn't slide all the way down the ditch, and we narrowly missed a road sign, so no damage. We were back on the road in one minute. Then we contemplated having almost killed the whole family, parents, kids, dogs, and all. We drove home going half the speed limit because we kept running into these deep snow drifts that would show up out of thin air after stretches of perfectly clear road. Needless to say we will be getting all new tires. High quality, all-terrain tires.

So, we're all alive. Let's be grateful for that!

It's good to know you guys are safe. It's always a scary experience to spin a car like that.

I hope Rakka's lump will go away in no time.

Wow Heidi. I think when Rakka isnt feeling well you need to do a through car check.
Glad you all are ok, let us know how Rakka is doing.

Wow. What a fright. Glad everyone is okay! I think all new all-terrain tires are a good idea.

And hopefully Rakka's lump will disappear as quickly as it appeared. :)

Rakka's lump is probably nothing major like the vet said. Tsuki developed a lump on her neck last year that turned out to be a cyst from her chain loop martingale collar pinching some skin.
Kitsune has a lump on his leg from an injection reaction.
Hanzo had lumps all over his neck when he came here and the vet thought they were infected bites and enlarged lymph nodes - antibiotics cleared it right up!

Don't worry too much, although I know you will, I would too. :)

I hope Rakka will be ok. I know that all mammals can get lumps at the lymph glads when there is a mild infection of some sort. Sometimes just the flu in humans can trigger them in people, so try not to stress too much.

Glad you all arrived alive and are now safe.

Sounds like a pretty terrifying drive home.

I hope Rakka is healing up nicely.

Just thought I'd update - Rakka's lump has shrunken down to a tiny little thing, hardly even noticable. Also, I have new tires :-)

I'm a little late on this, but I'm glad everyone is okay. I was in a car accident last year. The situation was similar, but I hit a guard rail and smashed up the car pretty substancially and I was only going 15-20 mph. Every joint in my body ached for a week. Ice and snow are no joke even at a low speed.

Also, pleased to hear about the mysterious Rakka lump. I guess shrinking is good.

Once again, so glad everyone is well.
