Catnip for dogs?

edited January 2009 in General
Is there a sort of catnip for dogs? I bought Sasuke several toys and now he wants nothing to do with them. I was wondering if it's possible to revitilize them.

I dont know about getting your pup to play with the old stuff, but if you haven't gotten a "CUZ" yet, most people (and I agree) say it's like crack for dogs! LOL

A lot of rescue dogs need to be taught how to play (I know kind of heart breaking). It took me 3 months to get Piglet to show any interest in a toy. Just keep playing and making it something fun and exciting. Any interest that Sasuke shows in the toy should be rewarded with lots of praise and enthusiasm. He is still very new to your pack. He will also learn from your other dogs how to play.

I swear to god, plastic bottles is the answer. It's like the ultimate fun to dogs just because they like to spite you and play with something that's free after you spent millions on toys. Put a few treats/kibbles in there without the cap and watch Sasuke figure out how to get 'em out. Then put the cap on after she's done this. That's when the real fun begins :D Just make sure they don't chew on it and eat the plastic.. like a certain pong -.-

How about some kongs with Kibble & PB inside that are maybe frozen? :o ~

Tosca's two favorite toys are a rope toy which she loves to thrash and a two liter soda bottle with no cap or label and treats inside. Hours of fun and it's easy on the wallet.

edit* Tosca's a real toy destroyer and the plastic of the soda bottle holds up remarkably well.

Ha ha, empty water bottles w/ treats inside were the best toys ever when we were camping. We were definately the most hated campers in the wildlife refuge.

Love the plastic bottles, they keep stealing them from our recycle bin. Tetsu would take off the caps so he can lick the inside of the bottle. Even though he'll not bother with the lids, we've gotten used to throwing them in a separate bag.
Also heard something about a frozen, half-filled with water, plastic bottle for teething puppies. You can still get the crinkle sound, but the cold helps sooth their gums.

Not really a toy, but my guys love carrots, and Tikaani will actually chew them. They would bat the carrots around like a cat would before eating it.

Hanzo's first interest in toys came from a bad cuz and a plastic water bottle. It takes a while for them to adjust to a new home and then more time to relearn how to be a 'normal' dog if that isn't something the former owners felt was important.
