You measure from the ground up to the withers with the dog standing standing with front legs straight & parrellel to eachother, & hocks "straight" & parallel to each other.
She wouldn't sit still long enough for me to get a good measurement! That Sake, she never stops! From my guestimate I would say about a foot (12"), but I could be totally wrong. I will try and get her during some down time tonight.
Osy, I think what is going to blow you away is how quickly any and all knowledge flies out the window when the dog is in front of you and misbehaving, or having a health issue...
Hey Kristin, After reading your thread I went and tried to do the same to Ichi but he'd be doing his elongated sniffing or shying away from the tape measure. My guess is that he's about the same also since they share the same birthday:).
Yeah, I pulled out the tape measure and Sake ran away or went and pulled a "dead dog" on me...silly girl. I may try with some string or something and then just measure the string. She didn't like the sound of the tape measure for some reason.
String would probably be a better bet. Nemo would not like a tape measure either.
Jess - You are right, all bets are off when a Shiba decides to get naughty or a dog gets sick/injured (possibly). Especially the sick thing early on with your first baby. I once dropped $250 at the emergency vet after Nemo slipped on the ice and limped a little. I had only had him three weeks and I was terrified that he was so injured, really he was just being a drama queen.
Been there. After a week of having Ryu (and being clueless!), we ended up in the ER for diarrhea. I was convinced that he had parvo. $250 later, I now know to TRANSITION food changes LOL
I'll post a thread on here..."OMG! He WONT poop! What the hell is wrong with him?! Should I take him to the vet?! Is he sick!?" or "He blinked eight times in a row! Is that normal????" or "He wont stop running around in circles! What should I do?!" o
lol Expect other such insanities when the time comes
It doesn't help that I am COMPLETELY paranoid about my babies' health. The vet & all the vet techs not only know my name, but my iguana's as well. [ & I just started going there 4 weeks ago ] I've been freaking out since he hasn't been eating since he broke his leg! & when he first broke it I thought they'd have to amputate! I was SO scared & cried the whole night & the 30 minute drive to the vet [ & I never cry! ] & then when I told the vet after he put the cast on & said Shinra would be fine..he LAUGHED so hard at me. UGH!

How do I measure how tall she is? I don't know the right place to measure :P I would like to compare to other shiba's out there.

Bringing the tape measure home tonight!
I wish i could let me dogs off leash to play in the snow....but its not allowed in our townhouse community!!!
