Jersey City, NJ anyone?

edited January 2009 in General
I haven't been to Jersey City in a good 5-6 years, and I'm slated to drive Hanzo there this Saturday to meet his new foster dad... does anyone know of a good meeting place in Jersey City?

Any navigational help for someone coming from I80 heading east would also be appreciated :))

It's supposed to snow on Saturday. Are you looking for a park or a restaurant?

What part of Jersey City - it's like 60 square miles?

Downtown JC is nice. There's a pub called The Merchant at 279 Grove Street - great brunch on the weekends. There's a nice park two blocks away - Van Vorst Park.

    Thanks Barbara!
Anywhere you can bring a dog that is a central place for meeting is what I'm looking for!
*oh, and close to public transportation to get back into the city

Van Vorst Park would be perfect. It's close to the Grove Street Path Station which runs between NYC and Jersey City and Hoboken.

Jess. Yes, JC is huge! There are like 5 zip codes. The park is in Downtown JC which is beautiful. I wanted to live there, but it was out of our range at $1M to $2M per row house. Quite a change from when I grew up and JC was more than run down. McNair High School in zip 07302 is number 2 in NJ. Of course, back in the day, much of NYC was pretty slummy too.

My mistake. I just checked. There are actually 11 zip codes in Jersey City. The population of JC is 242,355!

Ahhh...I remember my years in Jersey City.

Lived in the heights, I think, near Nelson Avenue...I don't remember too many street names as I moved there when I was 7 & left when I was 12. :o ~

I'd love to get some great food in JC, but since we're due for a storm, I think our time there will be brief!

Ok, Van Vorst Park - am I correct getting directions to 308 York Street, Jersey City, New Jersey‎?

    heeey Kristin!

If you are able to get there, we'll be at Van Vorst park at 10:30, just look for the short red head and her 3 legged shiba! Although, I'll probably be an emotional wreck!

Zinja: There are a few Filipino restaurants in JC, but that's at the 5 corners section of JC and they would have to take the path over to Journal Square then head back to Grove. Better off hitting the nice restaurants on Grove.

Sorry, Jen. I'd love to meet Hanzo, but I'm busy moving this weekend. Have fun and take lots of pix.

Thanks! We're hoping to find good lunch eats somewhere on Grove.
    Good luck moving!
