ATL January 09 Meetup

edited January 2009 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)
Our ATL meetup was today. I got to run by and pick up Sasha & Niko. I'm doing my best not to crow over the fact that Sasha came with me willingly (I promised Rachael), but I felt great that Sasha trusted me enough to leave Chad & Rachael for a few hours to go to the meetup. Jazz did very good today and I completely attribute it to the fact that we were inside. I've begun to notice that she does a lot better inside than out, possibly owing to the time that she was kenneled outside.

Anyway, here are my pics (which aren't stellar), but will give you something to look at until Dave goes through his photos of today.

Beautiful pics!!! I SOOO wish there were more Shiba Owners in my area. I would LOVE to get Honey together with her long lost cousins! And being indoors we make it even better!!!!

I feel pretty blessed to have as many as we do. It's a really good group, too. We just went to charging an annual fee because of the rates of meetup.com and no one had a problem with it - they understand that it's hard for everybody. Right before we left, the cutest little puppy got there (she's in the top photo, left). She was very cute.

I was going to ask about that pup! VERY CUTE INDEED!!!!! Do you remember how old? I'm SURE you plug this site as often as possible....and chance the owners will join us here?

The pup is 4 1/2 months old - I haven't plugged this site to her yet as I met her owner for just 15 minutes before I left, but I'm sure Dave has since that was how they found out about our meetup group.

Yep. Her name is Kira and she's 4 1/2 months old. She is absolutely adorable and her and Joey are like peas in a pod. (Don't tell Miko ;-)).

Taryn (Kira's owner) did join the forum, but she hasn't posted yet.

I have 475 pictures to sort through and I'm in the process of moving my photo library from my laptop to my desktop, so it will probably be a few days before I get them posted.

Dave that lens is huge. Also, I have that same camera bag.

I wish we still had a shiba meetup going here in Madison.

I wish there was an indoor venue where we could hold our Shiba Meetups. They have been put on hold until April when the weather gets better. :(

Check with Doggie Daycares, Training facilities, local kennel clubs - the day care that we were at charged a $15 usage fee. Some vet locations or therapy locations will also have rooms large enough for a meetup. We typically do 2 indoor meetups in the winter and 2 in the summer. I used this link (www.urbanpetguide.com)to find locations and then called/emailed each one. I detailed that we had a meetup group that would love to do an indoor meet there, roughly how many people/dogs we tended to have. I got quite a few responses - some said that they rent out for 4 hours for $150 and then there were the ones that we are scheduling meetups at. If it is a holistic vet/therapy/dog boutique, give them 15 minutes to go over some of their features or give a little infomercial about their services.

Thanks LJ! I will look into it!

Kristin, I know Pet World in Natick (they don't sell pets, and they carry EVERY premium food) has hosted meetups before. It seems like every time I have gone there on Sunday, there seems to be a swarm of dogs from one meetup or another...

Oooh, thanks Jess. I will give them a call and see what they say.

I try to find places that our members will truly benefit from being at - those that have special services, carry better food, donate proceeds to local shelters, etc. Some places had never considered doing a meetup, but once they were contacted, they were very happy to offer up a room for us to use.

I wish there were more shiba owners round here, cause most people think that a shibas play is fighting and I'd also just like to see more shibas

Looks like there's about 10 in your area that are interested in a meetup group.

@Brandon: That's my new 17-55 and its massive. It takes a 77mm filter! The thing must weigh 2 pounds. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but it is big.

I'm still learning the lens and how best to setup my camera for indoor use, so my keeper rate was pretty low yesterday, but I'll be posting a bunch of pics later today or tomorrow if I get to them.
