It's a Coyote, not Loa - notice the time and temp? Loa would never be out at that hour and in that kind of cold. :o)

    thats awesome!
    keep them coming!

Cool!!! That coyote pic is awesome! The rabbits are a little freaky!
  • edited November -1
You could make ... cheesy evil-rabbit ravioli!! Jk :o)

    Nice coyote pic!!
  • edited November -1
What are you doing awake at this hour??? It's passed Keiko's bedtime.

And you should only eat cheesy rabbit ravioli made from good bunnies, the evil cans taste bad and make you go blind.

    The coyote shots are cool!

    lol Jess!

    Nice shots!

WOW. Can't believe there is a coyote in your yard. INSANE! Albeit way cool.
  • edited November -1
    Really nice pics

If your not paying attention to the times and dates, it almost looks like a mini story of an evil rabbit being stalked by an unknown coyote hero.

Hmmmm... coyote looks well-fed, not scrawny and scruffy! Also, a lot bigger than the Mn. coyotes! Evil-bunnies should beware!

Thanks for the cool pics, Brad.

We've had our cam posted up north at the farm this winter ---- last we checked it, there were several deer pics over the course of some days. We think it was the same pair of deer coming back over and over, and one kept going up direct to the camera with an expression of curiousity. No coyote or wolf so far this winter in our woods.

Wow, that is a HUGE coyote. I know you said they are big out there, but damn, that is way bigger than I had imagined.

    Great spam!

I don't know Brad...Shikas are only thumbs away from world domination. And bunnies are awfully tempting. I think Loa snuck out for a snack...
  • edited November -1
Good point Jessica! Ahi or Loa may have figured out how to get out of their crate and the front door for some late-night bunny hunting! I actually think that looks more like Fuji in the pic than a Shika.

Jen pointed something out that is interesting...

I have been out of town for a week and Luytiy was boarding for a few days last week. Lani went into heat a few weeks ago [3 months early]! She is scheduled to be spayed in February, which was supposed to be before her 3rd heat but she threw us a curve ball and went into heat a few weeks ago. She is at the end of her heat now, in the "sexy" phase, and so Kona and Luytiy have been out of control. Jen boarded Kona and L to make her life a little easier since only she was home last week.

Anyway, that is the background info. What Jen pointed out was that those days the Coyote where pictured on our property was 2 of the 3 days Luytiy was "off duty" [being boarded]. So, maybe that is pointing to the type of results I was hoping with the addition of Luytiy.

Didn't you want to use Lani in your programme?

Good thing L is back on the job, no more marauding vandels and evil bunnies.
  • edited November -1
That's really interesting Brad! He's crated at night though right? Do you think his effect lasts even if he's not visible?
  • edited November -1
Lindsay - Lani's thyroid issue makes it irresponsible to breed her.

Dave - I dunno, I think. He is out there till 10 - 11 pm each night... but not at 3 or 4am so I have no way to prove my theory. Another thought might be that, since L had to be boarded at that time, Lani was obviously in the "attraction" phase of the heat and so Mr. Coyote might have been hanging out due to her scent.

    ----

Tonight we saw a Coyote cross our road - he was HUGE. Easily the size of Lani with a massive chest! Very impressive animal!

Brad, sorry, I forgot that, am now remembering the previous discussions and all the times you've said that already, I must have been sleep-foruming or something and not paying attention. That's too bad. Seriously, a coyote the size of Lani? Wouldn't that be like a wolf then or the Chupacabra:)?

WOW. I had no idea Coyote got so big!
    Interesting observation on Jen's part.

I love the progression of those shots!

    Mr. Coyote shows up.
    Dinner!

I think scent could also play a part in scaring critters away, they even "manufacture" predator piss to scare away raccoons and deer. Being that he does pee, Luytiy's scent can scare away others even when he is in for the night.

I don't know how long it would take, but could the scent of Luytiy's urine have faded in that time, and thus being less of a scary area for a coyote

Good point Beth. That is what I was trying to get at with my question, but you worded it a LOT better than I did.

Well, these are not from the game cam but I think they fit this thread. Today a group of female Elk walked behind our house! It was cool! I got some pics and video, I'm gonna have to upload the video later as I have to get back to work, but here are the pics...

There was a dog chasing them - I thought it was a Coyote, then I thought it may be a wolf, but on closer inspection it looks to be a husky mix...

And I'll leave w/ a pic of muddy Luytiy on his new "look out" platform:

[ lol for a second, I was thinking..."That is one AMAZING game cam!" haha ]

The herd is really cool-awesome pics! How did the pups all react? ;)

[ sorry about the mud...but it must make for some happy pups! ] ~

Is that the Husky mix that people kept calling a wolf on your youtube video of the "unexpected visitor?"

There was a herd of fawn (is that right?) eating grass next to the highway when I was back home at 11pm... I called Florida Fish and Wildlife to see if they can do something to protect them but all I got was this response: "We tend not to do anything because a lot of times the deer gets scared and runs into the road." Not sure if this is true but at least my conscience is cleared... I tried to help.

Osy - This video should answer your Q.

Joe - The dog in the pics and video does look a bit like the dog you are talking about - her name is Kaya. I'm not sure it is tho because Kaya has floppy ears and not as bush as of a tail. There was more than one dog/Coyote out there but I had a hard time getting shots of him/her.

    Here is the video:

*Obviously, in this video, i talk about the Coyote but we have not established it was a dog.

Boy do those elk have bright behinds...but those dogs really seem to be enjoying themselves.

    PS:Love the narration
  • edited November -1
    Elk is good...

They don't seem all that concerned about the dog.
