I think I'll be seeing it, because I like to know what/why I am bad mouthing. I'm sure it will be pretty much crap tough.
I can't think of it happening to Kuma either. First, it would be very sad to know he'd be in such a situation, and then that would mean I'd be dead. I don't think I'd like that at all.
You guys think hearing about lonely dogs makes you sad, it's ten times worse when you have kids. A friend of mine saw an episode of House where a baby drowned a few years ago and says he still has nightmares about it.
As per the movie - I'll probably see it. I, too, hope it doesn't make people suddenly want akitas, but I agree with Brad. I bet American akitas get it worse than Japanese akitas - they're already somewhat popular.
What's even worse is that if they get their hands on the puppies, most places [ down here in FL anyway ] that you rent have Breed Restrictions...the Akita is one of them. I can see a huge number ending up in shelters. I agree, I think the JA is pretty safe...it's the AA tat I'm more worried about. ~
Osy~ To insurance companies, rental agencies, town laws, etc. an Akita whether it is a JA or and AA is an Akita. In MA there are actually towns that have the Akita banned, although Im sure no one in those towns ever really laid eyes on a JA just an AA. Either way though (JA or AA), it's about the dog and it's upbringing and it's socialization...
I could go into a huge breed law speach, but Im not gonna....
Oh, I meant the JA is safe because of the breeders [ who are picky as it is ] not because the the breed laws* I think the AA will get hit worse by this, since they're readily available... ~
Yeah, It sad. I was looking into Akita rescue and it's all AA, although there are some that look blended. I am looking into the dog laws in the town we bought our house in...hopefully I can get my rescue Akita one day...
I don't know if anyone saw Dogs 101 this weekend on AP, but they had the AKITA and introduced Forest (the star of Hachiko). The show did strongly urge people to think long and hard before getting an AKITA and also commented that lovers of the breed were concerned about the upcoming movie release and what impact this might have on the breed. The show did a fairly good job, IMO, of at least making it a challenging dog that is definately not for everyone! Now, if only AP would run that segment in theatres just before the movie!!

Wasn't there a forum dog in that episode? Mika? Keigo? I forget.
