Leslie was showing me some of Taro's pics, what a handsome boy! I was really impressed w/ Leslie, and my daughter was so taken, she basically wants to build the same house and kennel as her when she grows up (she wants to be a vet)! What was so great about meeting Leslie is that my partner, who had always kinda felt that going to a breeder was a bit over the top or excessive, finally understood the importance and benefits of having a good, reputable, and experienced breeder. She also loved how she took charge and got things said and done (that's what she meant by Alpha)...she was basically sold by the whole experience!
Once I know for sure when to expect the pup I'll give Diane a call...although I've got a lot of experience training dogs, I think working w/ someone who understands the Shiba temperment is a must. My motto and what I have always taught my kids: An untrained dog is either un-happy, lost or dead. I couldn't agree more...it is priceless, especially if you value your dogs life.
Is Frasier one of the big boys?? I fell in love w/ both the big dogs there!!! They were Sooooo Cool! I didn't realize the Akita Inu was so much bigger than the American Akita and I didn't catch the breed name of the big brown guy, but he was awesome too!
Actually Darwin as I understand it (and I hope that Emilie or Brad will correct me if I am wrong) Japanese Akita/Akita Inu are typically smaller than American Akita.
He is a Leonberger, and he is a wonderful boy. Her JA is a bit smaller than the Leo from what I remember and he seems like he would also be smaller than any of the AA boys I have ever come across. Actually, I should say he would appear much more refined. I don't understand how people can say that Akita are inherintly aggressive, the few I have met are very good workers and pets.
Frasier is Daine Rich's red Dobe (the dog trainer). She knows Beebe as "the barking Shiba" :)
Leonberger...okay, I wasn't sure, she said it so fast...I definately have never heard or seen that breed, but he is a wonderful dog, adorable, and very good tempered! I never did see Frasier , hopefully next time! The JA was BIG...I guess I knew Akitas to be big, I just never thought of the them as THAT big...he was waist high to me, and at 5" 7" that's pretty good size dog! He wasn't as stocky as from what I've seen of the AA, so refined is a good description. I've always thought I'd like an Akita, and who knows....that must might happen, since for the first time, I'm prepared to have more than one dog at a time!
