Tojo and the Owl

edited October 2007 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)

We have owls in our barn that I often see flying by my window in the evening.  Well, a couple nights ago, Tojo was out on the line for a before bed potty break when I heard him screaming.  I figured he was just screaming to be let in (thinking I'd forgotten him out there) but then I heard another, slightly different screaming, and then Tojo screaming again.

Well, I went outside and Tojo was sitting facing a bunch of trees, screaming in that direction.  It took me a while to spot what he was screeching at (and what was screeching back) but then I spotted a great horned owl sitting on a branch.  They screamed back and forth until I brought Tojo in.

I wonder what they were saying...

Probably something along the lines of.

    "Hey this is my yard"

    "NOOO This is MY yard"

     "No MY Yard"

Or "Hi, seen any mice? I like to eat mice."

     "Really me too!"

    "We should hunt together!"

    But probably the first one.

Yeah, probably the first one.  Actually, the strange thing is, the owls don't usually sound like that at all!  It sounded like it was trying to copy Tojo.  Weird!
